Mark Stevens

MARK STEVENS OF "STEVENS & PRUETT" ON KEGL has died in Houston.

His roots are in Ft. Worth from KFJZ AM 1270 when he did nights, afternoons and mornings through much of the 1960's appearing as "Marky Baby".

In Houston in the 70's he was half of the "Hudson & Harrigan" show on KILT.

Back to DFW in the 80's as half of "Stevens & Pruett" on THE EAGLE 97.

Finishing up at KLOL in Houston with a brief reappearance syndicated to Dallas on THE EDGE.

He had a long and nice ride...

I have some good memories of Mark Stevens and his antics with his character Uncle Biff Burns on KFJZ back in the mid-70s. He certainly keep your ear glued to the radio. Should I venture to say a pioneer of shock radio? His stuff could pass for Disney today but it was pretty cutting edge back then.

I was listening on his first day at KILT... they had been advertising all weekend that there would be a "New "H" in Hudson and Harrigan" so... had to listen to see what was up! They were an awesome team that knew how to entertain. RIP Mark Stevens!

RIP Mark, you were there every morning when I was growing up. I'll always remember the laughs.

Godspeed.

I was in Houston from 1978 to 1982. Was he doing mornings 790 AM radio back then? Was he on
the same morning team on KILT radio back then?

mark was tuff as nails in the bidness department, absolute genius on air. did a lot for my career. never asked for anything in return but not to be disaappointed.

He and Pruett left KILT sometimes in the late 77-78ish, did a stint in Dallas, then back to Houston(1979ish) at 790 KULF until the station morphed to "79Q" and the "Q-Zoo" with John Lander.

I remember his first days at KILT.
White Cadillac El Dorado, turquoise jewelry, big-assed moustache and bigger than life.
Lunch at Barbara's Home Cooking and hanging with Kouba.

Roy, we're gonna miss ya.

Thanks for the KULF 790 info. I first heard him on KULF 790. None of his bios on this thread mention the fact he was also on 790 KULF.

Many a jock have no idea how many people they influence. Mark Stevens along with the entire cast of the S&P show influenced me. They are a big reason I work in radio today. So they are to blame..lol. Actually, I thank them all. Many a morning dozens of us would sit in the parking lot of Dulles High School in our cars..late to class, waiting on the Uncle Waldo bit. It was worth getting in trouble for. Rest in peace.
Marky baby rules!

Wow! I remember Mark when he was Marky Baby at KFJZ in Ft. Worth. I'll never forget a qwip he made just before the 5:00 news during the presidential election year (whenever it was) when he had just talked to a caller and promised her he would play her request right after the news: "I'm not like Hubert Humphrey---I keep my promises." followed by "I bet I get called in for that one!"

His wife used to work in my building and I chatted with him often in the hallways when he was visiting. I know he was doing the restaurant show with Cleverly Stone up until a year or so ago...my condolences to his family and all who worked with him...

FM was really getting to be main stream at that time and it seemed that many folks were losing interest in AM so it would be kinda easy to overlook their short stint on KULF. They seemed to have a pretty good following though anywhere they went. Radio has definately lost a great talent.
