Would someone tell Mark Williams that you don't double call the time outside of drive time. He's done this in every market I've ever heard him in, in every daypart I've ever heard him in.

If he understood the purpose of it, he wouldn't do it. Yes, it does sound very "radio", but wait until you get a drivetime gig (preferably AM drive)before you do it.

Double calling the time is usually done in morning drive, especially in larger markets where the commute is longer and people are more in need of time checks to help them pace their morning. Double calling basically tells people what time it is and how long it is before the top of the hour. Saying it's 8:37, 23 'til 9 informs people they have 23 minutes to be at work or wherever. It's just a little extra help in the morning. It's done for the masses. To do it in the event that a couple of people need to be somewhere at 9PM or 8PM is silly. I don't even think he does it for that reason. You can kind of tell that Mark either thinks it makes him sound much more "radio" or it's simply a crutch. Whatever the reason, it sounds dumb. I've never heard anyone ever do that at that hour...for a reason.

Hey, maybe THAT'S his schtick!

So if YOU've never heard it done, that means he shouldn't do it. Good reasoning!

No, if you actually can comprehend what he wrote, you would realize that he stated the reason why double calling the time is done---the fact that he has not heard anyone double call outside of drivetime was an aside to further illustrate how ridiculous it is that Mark does this. Mr. Williams, as well as YOU, obviously do not understand the application of this element.

But....

You fail to comprehend that Mark Williams has a sizeable audience in
Rio Linda. When you simply say: "It's 10:55", there is NO comprehension
that it's the same as (for example) "Five minutes before 11 O'clock at night".
Think of it as a public service.

Very funny...

It's admittedly a crutch in ANY day part it's used now. It was a real "Boss Jock" thing to do back in the day. Most of the folks that still do it have been doing it for 20 years.

The only public service Mark Williams provides is fertilizer mix...
