Market Specific Lyrics

I know we talked about this before, but it was probably a couple of years ago & board members change over time: lyrics changed for the market.

The original lyrics of the new Montgomery Gentry song Lucky Man are:
Last Sunday when the Bengals lost, Lord it put me in a bad mood.
The lyrics on the local edit being played on WCTK are
Last Sunday when the Pats lost...........

The last one I can think of was Terri Clark's I Wanna Do It All in which "watch the Yankees play ball" was changed to "watch the Pats play ball"

Billy Idol's Hot In The City was localized for Boston, but I'm not sure about Providence. I'm not sure if any Providence station personalized the radio cut-in on Starship's Hot In The City. Anyone remember?
 
I heard a song on HOT 106 many years ago that inserted some market specific lyrics in for different cities. There is no way in hell I can recall what song or who it was though. I just remember hearing it on occasion and then comparing it to the Boston market specific version played on Jamn 94.5.

I heard that one with "Red Sox" instead of "Yankees" on WKLB... I can obviously see why that was changed, but the replacement phrase seemed to fit very poorly in the edit I heard.

The song to which you refer was from 1998. It was by Lord Tariq And Peter Guns, and it was called "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)." It was the most market-specific song I have ever heard. Not only was there a version for Providence (I specifically remember a shout-out to Cranston and Warwick in the local version), but also a New Bedford-market version, replete with a shout-out to Dartmouth.

Another market-specific song that comes to mind comes from the Country genre. Neal McCoy's "Gotta Love That" has a line about a girl who wore an "Atlanta Braves cap." Back when WKLB was WBCS and at the 96,9 dial position, they played a version that substituted "Red Sox" for "Atlanta Braves."

Shania must have done it for a number of people then because I remember the "OK so you're Tony Bristol. That don't impress me much" edit when he was still on middays at PRO-FM. As far as any localizing We Built This City,if anyone played it it probably would have been Holland.
 
Hot 106 (when it was KIX) had a localized version of "Jump On It" by Sir Mix-A-Lot. I'd give anything to be able to get my hands on that version now (it's a HUGE song at school dances), but it was probably tossed away in North Attleboro a decade ago.

I also remember Kiss 108 playing a local version of "I Wanna Go Back" by Eddie Money in the late 80s. The first line had Eddie singing "I... was listenin' to Kiss 108" instead of "I... was listenin' to the radio".
