Markets Lacking CHRs

KIIS does have a Rhythmic leaning playlist. But KIIS is perceived as a CHR. Ask their listeners. I'm sure a small fraction would call it a hip-hop station.

Listeners don't know what "Rhythmic CHR" is. Even more important, they don't care. Only radio nerds do. Listeners only care if a station is playing their favorite music at a given point, and providing content that interests them.

KIIS is a CHR, both in presentation, as well as playlist. Just because it doesn't fit some over-radioed idea of what a CHR should be doesn't mean it doesn't fit the listeners' definition. And the ratings prove it.

Get over it. Most KIIS naysayers should spend more time praising their lack of cookie-cutter blasphemy that said naysayers spend an equal amount of time b!tching about with regards to many other stations.

I'm nowhere near the Duluth market, so I don't work at the station.  Some say they're close enough to CHR (after 6pm anyway), others say Duluth needs a station that's CHR 24/7 (and another station that's Hot AC 24/7).

Hopes this answers your question, Mid West Clubber.

Albany/Hudson Valley can use a really good Top 40 station, right now its between three; K104.7 (the best) Kiss Fm 96.1 and Fly 1049

An awesome pure Top 40 station would be great. K104 remixes all the new music which in my opinion ruins it, Kiss FM is more rap than anything, and Fly 1049 has terrible coverage.

Just my thoughts... :)

Uhm, I assume you mean FLY 92.3?

Albany and the Hudson Valley are two seperate markets, and neither of them is lacking CHR radio ::)

Albany has Fly 92 and 102.3 Kiss FM. Furthermore, 96.3 Jamz is a Pop leaning Rhythmic outlet.

Poughkeepsie and the Hudson Valley are well served by K-104, a station heavily influenced by New York City's Z-100, and as a result is about as pure CHR as you can get.

Mankato, MN could use a CHR. It's a college market so if one was done right, it would do very well. It had 96.7 The Spot (KDOG) years ago, but it flipped to variety hits (Jack-type format), and KDWB and B96 out of the cities consistency show up with 1-2 shares with fringe signals.

add Bangor, ME to that list

The market does have a CHR... kind of.... more outplayed hits like "love Song" and "U & UR Hand" play more often than current hits.

We had WWBX, a CC station, but it got switched to sports :'(

Still waiting when SOMETHING comes back here!!!!!

did you honestly not see that I said:

???????
I was saying they could use that 2nd one Like they've had since 99 AGAIN!

I cant believe no one has mentioned Fort Wayne Indiana.. WMEE is the closest we go, and they are a hodge podge format that might play Saving ABEL, into AKON, and then play Hotel California, ETC,,Look at the playlist for yourself... They used to claim Fort Waynes Hit MusicChannel with the same exact formula, but now thye are Todays best Music Variety.... Actually my Semi Fringe Local Hot AC B-102.7 in Terre Haute is closer to CHR than them, and they already have 2 CHRs in their market... WMEE in Fortwayne even has John Tesh At Night,, thye did have Billy Bush,, but maybe it was just the countdow... Years ago, they even had Rick Dees in the morning, and the rap songs were not deleted.

Actually Clubber, in recent weeks I've included Ft. Wayne's Hot 107.9 on my CHR/Pop list of streamers. The industry still classifies it as CHR/Rhythmic, but the station is nowadays a lot like B-96 Chicago and 98.5 KLUC Vegas. You'll hear plenty of Pink and Katy Perry on WJFX, as well as Britney and Christina Aguilera. They also had some success with Metro Station's "Shake It".
I'm telling you, some of the stations on the Rhythmic panel are playing more Pop then some of the stations on the CHR/Pop panel. As you know, KLUC has been pretty supportive of Jason Mraz "I'm Yours" (now a Top 5 hit at CHR/Pop), and I've noticed B-96 officially added "Crush" by David Archuletta to its playlist after flirting with the song several weeks back. Oh, and Charlotte's 96.1 The Beat has, get this, "The Bartender Song" by Rehab in its Top 10!

Hot 99.5 seemed to be doing more Rhythmic as of June 2008. I thought they used to be more CHR-leaning a few years back.
John
Bensalem, PA

John, what are you talking about? Hot 99.5 is as CHR/Pop as they come.
Here's what the station played this evening:

7:02 Jason Mraz "I'm Yours"
7:07 Metro Station "Shake It"
7:07 Kanye West "Love Lockdown"
7:13 Rihanna "Rehab"
7:18 Leona Lewis "Better In Time"
7:27 Britney Spears "Womanizer"
7:31 T.I. "Whatever You Like"
7:35 All American Rejects "Gives You Hell"
7:38 Rihanna "Disturbia"
7:41 Ne-Yo "Miss Independent"
7:45 Saving Abel "Addicted"
7:56 Beyonce "If I Were A Boy"
8:00 Taylor Swift "Love Story"
8:03 TI "Live Your Life"
8:08 Gavin Rossdale "Love Remains The Same"
8:11 Ne-Yo "Closer"
8:15 T-Pain "Can't Believe It"
8:20 Jason Mraz "I'm Yours"
8:30 Kanye "Love Lockdown"
8:35 Britney "Womanizer"
8:38 Pink "So What"
8:42 Nickleback "Gotta Be Somebody"
8:45 Rihanna "Disturbia"
8:56 Ne-Yo "Miss Independent"
