Markets that need a second CHR

I'm sure many of you may say all of them, but I'll choose the ones that have the only CHR run by either Clear Channel or Cumulus. This would include places like Chicago, Columbus, Boston and Baton Rouge.

My market of Columbus hasn't had a second CHR since 1995. My city loves the fact that it has 4 country and 4 classic hits stations and if you read the Columbus board you can see how much we complain about our stations.

Main problem with Columbus getting a second top 40 is Clear Channel has all their signals except one in Columbus. All the other companies here have 1 strong station they own which is the moneymaker for them and the rest of their cluster is rimshots. So unless they want to dump a moneymaker to do it they really don't have anything that can serve the entire market. Saga, Wilkes, and Radio One are the only other big companies in the market. The rest are locally owned.

More like what markets need a CHR:
Fresno
Sussex, NJ
Dover, DE
Reading, PA
Santa Fe, NM
El Paso, TX
Cape Cod, MA
Worchester, MA
Pittsfield, MA
Fredricksburg, MD

St. Louis. Clear Channel's KSLZ is terrible: One local airshift all day, stale music, slow on ads. Despite what some have said, Y98 is not CHR. No one in STL is playing the rhythmic pop to any large extent.

Chicago basically has two. B96 may be on the rhythmic panel but they're probably more mainstream than KIIS. Wanted and Adele among their top spinners. Yeah, yeah. Adele may be `soulful' but she wouldn't have made the cut for Rhythmic CHR pre-PPM.

I don't get why B96.3 is on the Rhy/CHR panel while its sisters WDZH, WXRK, and KAMP are CHR. There's not much difference.
CHR and Rhythmic CHR are extremely similar these days.

Agree. Z107 is probably the worst CHR in the big markets. Seems like there is no effort. They are going local in mornings, so that may help. Nights are even canned....and it's a top 25 market CHR.

FWIW: Pittsfield is well covered by WFLY out of Albany.

Be nice to see a 2nd CHR here in Providence. We have Fun out of New Bedford, but they arent really a full market signal and their target is NB.

What about Hartford, CT? CC owns both CHRs. WKCI and WKSS....

BOSTON! If the tables were turned and a different company had a CHR monopoly including the #1 station in double digits there is a 1000% chance CC would put on a competitor. Yet the other companies are too passive to do the same.

Portland, OR (#23) should get a second CHR. The heritage CHR, the other Z100 sounds so conservative lately. They used to be a lot more rhythmic, but since CBS swapped stations with Clear Channel, they put all the rhythmic music onto 107.5. The nearest competition are LIVE 95.5 and 105.1 THE BUZZ which are HOT AC's. Do we need 3 stations that sounds like HOT Ac's in Portland, it's 1994 again.

In 2012, being "conservative" is playing rhythmic music - rhythmic pop has been around for at least 3 years now - what's "liberal" is new Alt/Pop and Alt/Rock (Gotye, Foster The People, Fun, Adele, etc.)

Posters need to stop equating Hot AC with "conservativism", because at this point, most Hot ACs are MORE liberal than most CHRs in terms of adding cutting-edge music

Try to listen to Portland radio, you wont find much rhythmic product on the radio, even old skool rhythmic. I guess you haven't been or listen to PDX radio at all.
