Markets where CC does not call its CHR stations "Kiss FM"

Noteworthy NON-Kiss CC CHR: KIZZ Minot, North Dakota!

Also, XL93 Grand Forks, and Y93 Bismarck.

(All three have had their identities for decades.)

I thought KIIS was the original Kiss FM?

I think you might be right
Some of the first Kiss FMs were
Kiss 108 Boston - started as a Disco station in the late 70s
102.7 KIIS-FM Los Angeles predates it - Top 40 station that signed on in the mid 70s, but took off a few years later when Rick Dees began his long-running morning show there
98.7 kiss FM New York - around 1980 the station signed as a Rhythmic station, and was the inspiration for stations like Kiss 100 London

Kiss 98.5 Buffalo didn't sign on until the mid 80s, and Kiss 95.1 Charlotte only signed on around 1995 (before that it was known as something like 95.1 Double Q and The Edge) though there was a Top 40/Rythm station in Charlotte in the 80s known as Kiss 102.

Already posted this, but here's the order for Kiss CHRs...
(1)KIIS/Los Angeles (1975)
(2)WXKS/Boston (1979)
(3)WYKS/Gainesville FL (1981)
(4)WKSS/Hartford (1984)
(5)WKSE/Buffalo NY (1985)
(6)KHKS/Dallas (1992)
(7)WNKS/Charlotte (1996)

Then, in 1997-2001 or so, Clear Channel started using the Kiss brand name to start up a slew of new CHRs (Seattle, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Albany, Milwaukee, etc.)

Max 106.3-Sussex, NJ
Q102-Philly
KC 101-New Haven,CT
B104-Allentown
FM 97-Lancaster/Reading
Variety 97-Lock Haven/Williamsport, PA

atlantaboy - WXSS/Kiss FM Milwaukee is an Entercom station.

It's not a CHR, but one of the early users of the "Kiss" name was WKSF in Asheville, NC, starting in the mid 80s.

I'm glad CC has moved away from using the "Kiss" name on their new stations, personally - I could understand using it on a station with calls like KIIS, but it's really kind of a weird name...JMO

Channel 93.3-San Diego
Wild 94.9-SF
93.3 FLZ-Tampa
Channel 96.3-Wichita
Channel 99.9-Dayton
104.5 The Cat-Lexington
Z104.3-Baltimore
97 ZHT-Salt Lake City
Channel 95.5-Detroit
Y100-Miami
Key 100-Ashland, KY
WEOW 92.7-Florida Keys

You're forgetting KISS/Toledo in the "First KISS stations" list. They've been using the moniker for quite some time, well before being bought by CC.

Flipped from WMHE to "Kiss" in 1988...well after most being mentioned here.

St. Louis-KSLZ "Z 1077" is a CC station that isn't "Kiss FM"

It's "V97" now.

There is a CC-owned Kiss-FM in the same market but they are an AC. The AC Kiss-FM has a lot of heritage in the market and was already called "Kiss-FM" when CC bought it.

New York's WHTZ is "Z100." Good thing Emmis sold the intellectual rights of the former WRKS to ICBC to keep CC from renaming this station to "100.3 Kiss FM." (NY is now the only top 5 radio market to have no "Kiss.")

There was no chance of CC ever renaming Z100.

Did Clear Channel rename any stations it bought out (that were already CHRs at the time)? I can't think of any

KZZP

Wasn't that Alternative before CC bought it out, though? ("The Zone" I think) - they had to rename it if they were flipping formats

No...KZON was The Zone (101.5).
