Marlin (WCCC) tried to buy 104.1 What!!!

I was reading on R-I that Marlin Broadcasting tried to buy WURH FM-104 but was outbided.. what do you suppose Marlins Idea Was?

What I see in my eyes as a dream for a rock station...
104.1 Almost makes it down to stamford...
100 to 200 thousand people live in this area of this Translater
!03.1 W276AV (WQXR) has been Just been a wasted frequency down here in stamford :'(
they should just turn it off for now and let WBZO 103.1 come in clearly. for now that 103.1 in stamford is just relaying 101.9 WRXP in horrible quality...

remember these post are just IMHO thank you

Sorry Jaime. But to you and everyone else on this board I will bet you a Footlong Tuna sub from Subway that if Marlin had gotten the winning bid for 104.1, they'd move the Classical format from 1290 AM and 106.9 HD 2 to 104.1 FM. "FM 104.1 Beethoven Radio. WTMI Waterbury-Hartford and Beethoven.COM". I wonder if now Marlin will try and put in a bid on one of the 3 FMers owned by CBS.

Who says CBS is selling the Hartford stations? It's a very successful cluster.

Well, CBS basically said it for one thing. But that was a while ago. Things may have changed.

I just wish a rock station like CCC would buy
W276AV (WQXR) has been Just been a wasted frequency down here in stamford that has to be a translator. I looked into buying it to make it a LP-FM but it cannot be one. It sad that this frequency is just being nothing these days with all the people who live in the stamford area.
as for me I'm surviving on WXCI Danbury. I enjoy going to college in CT now.
If any of you can catch my show its Tuesday's 2-5.. I also seem to sneak on some mornings as well
;)

Sure Marlin could buy 103.1 W276AV but they would not be allowed to translate WCCC on it...The only way is if someone else owns the translator and puts WCCC on the translator for free (meaning WCCC cannot pay the owner of the translator to carry the programming)....If a company owns a translator and a fully licensed signal and wants to carry the station on that translator, the translator's signal would have to fall within the main signals protected contour...An example would be WFOX and W276AV.....Cox could purchase W276AV and put WFOX on it because the translator signal falls within WFOX's protected contour....It would be nothing but a fill in station.....This is not the case for non-commerical stations....The FCC allows non-commerical stations to broadcast on translators outside the protected contour (this is why their are so many Religious translators)....Now the FCC does have some exceptions and one of them has to do with W276AV.....It was supposed to be used for WQXR because of the proximity to WCTZ.....Although a Class A WCTZ is strong enough in the Stamford area to drown out WQXR (mostly on analog dial radios or clock radios with poor sensitivity)....Therfore, they can use the 103.1 translator to fill in the signal in and around the few miles of the WCTZ transmitter.....WQXR does the same thing with another translator down in Oakhurst, NJ where they use 96.7 W244AS due too nearby 95.9 WRAT.

GSP163, thanks for the Info! I seem to learn a thing or two on R-I every day.
W276AV in stamford is not relaying WQXR these days. it was off for a long time and everyone started listening to B103 with the loss of cool 96.7 and 101.1 WCBS=FM however, it was turned back on last spring relaying 101.9 RXP in terrible quality and let me tell you that w276AV is a very strong signal knocking out B103.1(long Island) from Norwalk to the NY Border and beyond both on I-95 and Route 15!

95.1 WRKI could buy it...,

dreaming in cloud on this one ...
It would be cool if WSOU South Orange NJ would look into it bringing Heavy Metal to fairfield county...
or this station...
WXCI Danbury. They are not always rock... their EVERYTHING Imaginable
