Marni Hughes leaving Q13 FOX on September 11th....

Too bad.

She was the best female news anchor they had since Leslie Miller left...

I agree. There is another site based in a gulf coast State that makes fun of anchors leaving to spend more time with family. I don't know this is the actual reason here, but one must wonder. I would expect her back on the air somewhere (either Seattle or elsewhere) within 6 months.

I wonder if she will fill the other slot for KING 5 Evenings since it’s just Joyce

KCPQ apparently losing talent left and right...

Again from blogger Scott in Florida:

"The revolving door continues to spin at Tribune’s KCPQ in Seattle.

Sources tell FTVLive that another 3 people have left (or are leaving) and it will leave some big holes in the Producer ranks.

4PM Producer Ben Leighton is leaving the station and word is he will pop up in a TV job in Portland.

Senior Producer Lucas Combos, who was just promoted recently is leaving to work at Patch.com

Senior EP John Mecham is leaving as well to “figure out what he wants to do next?”

Or: (if what you report is correct)

Two left for what could be considered promotions.
One is re-thinking whether the TV News biz, contemplating a career shift.

There were plenty of times I find myself spontaneously outside the door and their explanation was "he has not announced his plans". I always read that kind of phrase as "fired" or "RIF'd"!

Traditionally, there's been a bit of a difference between male and female journalists leaving:

Male: "He has not announced his plans" or something similar.

Female: "She wants to spend more time with her family" or something similar.

Not saying it's always like this...but it definitely skews by gender.

Oh, the generalities of getting fired...

I am retired, but have been "let go" a number of times, (not unusual in the radio biz). But sometimes the way it happens can be random and/or unclear. I remember one job where the consultant said that "we agree that you need to move on", whatever that meant. Another said, "you need to do what you need to do, and if you are unhappy, that would probably help make your decision". Then when you try to get unemployment compensation it becomes an issue. Lesson learned. Get it in writing! But seriously, some in the media business make it sound like "their" firing is "your" resignation. Be careful. Just watching out for my younger comrades.

Has Nexstar taken over at KCPQ? The Nexstar site shows KCPQ as their station, but the KCPQ site still shows Tribune. Just a delay in updating websites? Or is this not technically official yet? My best guess is we in an "in-between" period...??? Or Nexstar hasn't changed the KCPQ website? I know these details are not particularly important, but you would think someone would cover the bases with a major business transaction.

Yes thanks I see it on their website now. I guess much ado about nothing. Will be interesting to see how the product may change. Or not.

I saw a video on YT yesterday that shows the Nexstar ID at the end of Q13 morning news

Closing certainly looks interesting, where they have Washington State and finally onto the Seattle area zoom up to the screen before the Nexstar logo. I've seen alot of the Nexstar logos though online. All tailored to the market they serve. Looks like they don't have any kind of general music or graphics package they use for their stations. They just go ahead and let their stations use their own. (Unlike Sinclair or TEGNA)

Q13, not being a fox O&O, has always gone on their own way when it comes to music/graphics. They actually look pretty good right now, but I can't help believe that Nexstar won't have some input into the overall product, for better or worse.

Is Fox still in the running to buy KCPQ? Have not heard much on this lately but our friend in Florida posted that a message from nextstar welcoming tribune stations never mentioned kcpq. Hmm.

Given all the spin off of previous FOX divisions, I get the impression FOX isn't interested in growing their O&O count.

Having been through many TV group acquisitions, it's too soon to see any noticeable on-air changes. Chances are Nexstar is in the process of looking at station budget and management structure, which includes studying the overall Seattle-Tacoma market with an eye on optimizing for opportunity. If using consultants for several markets, this process could take several weeks or months. Stations in larger markets, or less-media-saturated markets, will probably be the focus first.

Didn’t see this thread but posted in the FOX thread...Marni Hughes joins WGN America’s news nation as weeknight co-anchor alongside Joe Donlon, Rob Nelson & Albert Ramon.

Guess less than a year with her family was enough!

These things are so funny. She probably knew this was coming but couldn’t talk about it. But a good choice for WGN America’s new plans. Also interesting that she and her co-anchor both have strong PNW backgrounds.
