Married with Microphones--separated?

I've listened to Chris and Janeen on WGRR lately, and something sounds hinky. I can't put my finger on it, but it almost sounds like the two of them aren't broadcasting from the same studio.

I'm not talking about the awful remote broadcasts they'v3 been doing from Perkins--note to producer: the vice mayor of any given municipality is NOT inherently an interesting guest... but I digress...

There have been an couple of times when I've heard Janeen step on Chris' lines, and I've never heard that, unless she's just interrupting him like she usually does. Also, I heard them mention that the Reds were "playing Pittsburgh tonight" this morning. Uh uh. Another mistake that O'Brien wouldn't usually make.

Maybe I'm just paying too much attention, but it just sounds like they are tracking a portion of the show, or one is in the studio and the other is broadcasting from home. Chris has to be getting sick of this gig; is this the way to ease out?

I was wondering the same thing myself as I was listening this morning...they sounded like they haven't had sex in weeks.

They were not playing off the same sheet of music. Maybe now is the time to bring in someone new, as the focus of the music has certainly moved in a new direction. Jim L. was first to go...could they be next?

Who is the PD there now?

Amazing. One morning of listening, and you've determined the show is in the tank. Even Arbitron's ratings aren't that knee-jerk. So Chris flubbed a statement and you heard it. Oh my God, the sky is falling, fire them and the entire WGRR staff for allowing such a travesty to happen. And especially after all the carping and whining on these boards about live and local, here comes a statement about the mayor of the 'burb that they are doing a remote broadcast from not being interesting. But I guess since you didn't find it compelling, it's bad radio. Thanks for clearing that up. Make sure you tell Arbitron that WGRR's rising numbers must be in error. I'm sure they'll be all over it.

Oh, and before you start making wild guesses about the sex life/marital status of Chris and Janeen (or anyone else), might I suggest getting to know them first? Frankly, that's none of your - or anyone else's - damned business.

Excuse me while I get my ouija board ready to divine the future of radio in Cincinnati. On second thought, I'll just read these boards... they're more entertaining, and just as far from reality.

Tasteless.

Geez, Wylly-- talk about knee-jerk (or is it just jerk?) Did you even read my post? I wasn't complaining about the error for the error's sake. What I SAID was, I wonder if the show might be tracked or a portion tracked or maybe one of them working from a remote location. And the reason was because their show always usually sounds crisp and on the mark. And I said, "I've been listening LATELY" and noticed the difference. Not one morning, and not based on never listening to them before. In fact, based on listening to them for years. Nobody said the show was in the tank...but you.

Yes, you got me on the second point. I am indeed saying that a five minute interview with the vice mayor of Fairfield is bad radio. It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. Did you find it compelling? Did anyone other than the vice mayor and his mother find it compelling? I doubt it.

Finally, you imply in the beginning of your post that Arbitron's ratings are "knee jerk", then at the end you say I should "tell Arbitron WGRR's rising ratings are in error." Are they knee-jerk or are they on the money?

I agree the comment on anyone's sex life has no place here. I didn't make that comment. Your response to my post was an overreaction and a misinterpretation.

I hardly think that was an overreaction. Your original post had a very negative tone, and you're talking out of school about people who are not only professional colleagues, but personal friends. So yes, I had a reaction, but not a overreaction. Perhaps if your statements were clearer and had some substance, I would not have "mis" interpreted them. I won't apologize for standing up for friends and colleagues. If it were you in the hot seat, I'd be saying the same thing.

My reference to Arbitron was tongue in cheek. The ratings are flawed, anyone working in radio knows that they're not all that they appear to be on the surface (or they should if they don't). Yet Married With Microphones has consistently been one of the top morning shows in Cincinnati, and it's not because they're bad at what they do, Arbitron or not.

Again, live and local is the mantra I read over and over on these boards. When the morning show is doing a summer tour, having guests from the municipality seems like a great idea. What would you suggest as an alternative? A reading of the Perkins menu? If you're going to comment and call the remote broadcasts "awful," you should qualify the statement with something more substantive. It's not just Chris and Janeen you insult by saying such things; it's also the team involved in making it happen.

WyllyWylly you are 100% right on it! Even a broken Ouiji board wouldn't specilate about a top 3 morning show being booted for a minor fluff that probably sailed right by the vast majority of the listening audience. Chris and Janeen are great to work with inside the station, true team players. And clients love them for their work at remotes and endorsement spots. Ratings have been solid for many years. Let's give credit where credit is due! If someone doesn't care for their brand of morning show, there is a little knob or push button that magically changes the radio to another station where even someone who is cranky for an apparent lack of fiber in their diet can find something they like to listen to!
