MARSHFIELD FAIR SPOTS

+1 on nice to see you back Joe!

Somewhere, there is a group of 30 somethings sitting over a beer or two going " damn it every time I heard those effn Marshfield Fair commercials, I knew the start of school was right around the corner!"

Hey Joe......hows Maine?
The Fair. Fried dough, Demo Derby, the Barker shouting "High and Dry!"

And for those over 40, we offer the following jingle which evoked a chill up the spine when heard for the first time in mid-summer:

Before you go back to school go to Zayre
You can learn the A-B-C's of saving there
For less than you rea-a-lize,
Everything from clothes to school supplies
Before you go back to school go to Zayre
Where?
Zayre. Z-A-Y-R-E.
Fabulous.

Fortunately, the company decided its future was in its BJ's start-up, so we haven't heard this in 25 years

now there are some brain cells that have not fired off in a a couple of decades....

Zayres was sold off to Ames, and Ames, along with Cal-Dor, Ann & Hope, and other stores couldn't compete with the "big box" stores

Personnally I think you should get back into radio. It's sad that you are not on any major Boston radio station. If I was a Program Director or Assistant PD of ???? (Magic 106. WROR, 93.7..) you would be one of the first few that I hire. I wish you always good luck sir

Ann & Hope is still around, just in a different format. It's now called Ann & Hope Curtain & Bath Outlet. 9 stores in Connecticut, Mass, and Rhode Island,

Their website is: http://www.curtainandbathoutlet.com/

Also check out: http://www.amesfanclub.com/ - Featuring tons of pics of most of the old AMES Stores and an awesome message board to talk about Retail Past & Present.

are some of your old id spots still on WATD? i thought i recognized your voice on one of the shows there.

That's still him every hour on their TOH ID, and some others. I think I've also still recently heard him on liners on WCAP Lowell.

I know for a fact Joe's voice work is heard all over the world.

He used to post some of the more interesting places up on his FB page, the Philippines was one place that stood out as unusual.

Plus he does work for Mike Robert's " LiteFavorites.com" online radio station.

I've Known Ed Perry since I first worked for him when I was 21
back in the Early 70s at the Station he owned in Falmouth Ma WCIB
