Martin New VP/Programming For Movin', Alice, Live 105...

An All Access bulletin just in:

ALL ACCESS has learned that MICHAEL MARTIN has joined CBS/SAN FRANCISCO as VP/Programming at KMQV, KLLC, KITS, and KFRC-AM.

Gosh, and I go one more email down in my mailbox and find this alert from the Daily Breeze out of Torrance in SoCal:

Clear Channel's KYSR-FM program director resigns
Posted: 01/05/2009 07:49:30 AM PST

Michael Martin, vice president of programming for Clear Channel in Los Angeles and program director of KYSR (98.7 FM) has decided not to return to his job in 2009.

"Yes, I have resigned," he wrote in a post on allaccess.com. "I made the decision to resign when I realized that, in the past year, I saw my son a little over 80 days out of 365."

Martin's family lived in the San Francisco Bay Area while he worked in L.A.

Later, in the very same article:

Music on AM

Speaking of the Bay Area, CBS is trying music on AM again in San Francisco, as KYCY (1550 AM) adopts the legendary KFRC call letters and takes on an oldies format programmed by Scott Shannon, who once programmed Pirate Radio in Los Angeles.

Which begs the question: Does CBS have any such plans for its AM properties in our area? I doubt it, but you never know. Two news stations - KNX (1070 AM) and KFWB (980 AM) - have proved hard to support.

Gee whiz! It even makes news Down There!

It appears that the above gnus is Part 2 of this thread:

Hmmm. Did somebody already have a résumé on somebody's desk in San Francisco while somebody was still employed in LA?

(After reading Mr. Martin's post on the LA side, however, I'm guessing that the Clear Channel people knew about his situation.)

And it may be gnus to you, Jay, but it's still a wildebeeste to me.

Great move. Replace on egotistical jerk with another. This is a fine example of what's wrong with radio today. Ugh!

Sidebar: my subject line ran out of space and didn't include KFRC-AM.

I'm just wondering how much work Michael Martin is actually going to do programming KFRC/1550. (My hope: a lot. An awful lot.)

...But, either way, someday he'll be able to tell everyone "I once programmed KFRC in San Francisco!"

Pardon me. I'm not from the Bay Area. What happened to Mike Preston?

They decided to go in another direction, but they wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors yada, yada, yada...

HA! Any of us in this business has been given that line WAY too many times. I think I am going to get a t-shirt made with that very phrase.

Jazzy to PD of Movin??? I see a Rhythmic flip coming soon to go head to head with KYLD. If Martin can help mend the fences between JV and CBS they could give Wild a run for their money. The man has taken on and beaten a heritage before

Jazzy for P.dir doesn't work if martin is P.Dir
Wild 99.7 has a nice ring to it
jV isn't coming back to the bay

I'ld move Alice to 99.7 and start a new station on 97.3.
99.7 has too much baggage at this point.
One day it's "Movin 99.7" playing Rihanna... the next day it'll be "???? 99.7" still playing Rihanna.

But it can be done.

94.9 has too much baggage at this point too... from Doghouse to T-man to no morning show... from Rhythmic to Pop back to Rhythmic....

Bringing Jazzy and JV in sounds like a great move.

i wrote that before they announced MM comin to CBS, just when he left CC/LA. I knew he was goin to CBS tho, but I just figured hed be VP of programming, not PD of Movin as well. Best of luck to MM. He's actually really a great leader. Maybe jazzy will come on board as an MD / APD again.... They are a pretty great 1-2 punch to take out the mess that is KYLD.

With MM at the helm of the CBS building in SF, I wonder how the CC SF building is feeling. I think this is a really great move for CBS and INSTANTLY makes them a strong competitor once again. I predict Jazzy to movin and a format flip. There are alot of good former KYLD jocks still out and about that would love to work with these two again..in other news..KYLD STILL has no morning show but has managed to fill the void at night with NESSA, why not former KPWR/KYLD night stud Miguel?

I see the cbs radio stations going down the drain further when MM gets the helm

Preston did everything that was asked off him from Mason and Harvill. Too bad for Mike, who
is a great programmer. MM is corporate to the tee. He has a way of making managers do what
he wants and looking like a Chessire Cat.

It seems like after Jim and Breezy got let go...things may be realigning. I don't want to speculate but it seems like there would be room for Movin' to pretty much be a prototype of how WILD/HOT 97.7 was to the same degree that KISS was like a time capsule for back in the day KMEL jocks ie. Renel and Michael Erickson of course, along with some others like Gill Alexander. Could be a cool way to give some jocks of the past another run. Best of luck...
