I think that the Martini format would do great in Atlanta. I wonder who would take a chance on it????????

I too think that 94.9 would be a great choice for the Martini format!

How about a martini format with a morning team that dresses as pirates!

I think BizListener's point was that he had brought up this topic a while back and we talked it out (IIRC on the 94.9 thread) and now someone else (ahem...) is bringing it up not two weeks later...

Oh, let's just keep the s--- kicking "BULL" then. I would rather this station go silent. Atlanta is way over done on country.

If someone programmed a station, and nobody listened to it, could you call that "silent"?

Now it would be great to have Music of Your Life back in Atlanta. Especially on FM.

The so-called "Martini" format is basically "Music of Your Life" with just enough minor tweakig to avoid having to pay royalties for the Music of Your Life brand name. Radio geeks would recognize all the subtle differences, but the average listener would have trouble telling them apart.

I'm sure goodtimesandgreatoldies will soon launch a whole new thread about the differences between the two, and why Spiff should be their DJ.

Why wouldn't it make sense to take 94.9 back to AC? WSB is not the greatest station. Couldn't Atlanta support two like it used to? I can't see how a "martini" format would work. It would most likely evolve into soft ac with loads of Manalow and then into mainstream AC. This has happened many times in other cities. Usually it is B/EZ to soft ac to mainstream. WTVR and WMXB in Richmond VA. followed this route. So did WRVA , but it continued to evolve into talk since it was on AM and listeners went to WEZS/WMXB then co-owned Lite 98 for music. CC has kept AC viable in Charlotte and Richmond. Why not Atlanta? I think it is a no-brainer. Whether they call it "Peach" or "Lite" is not pertinent.

I don't think that there are enough recording artists making contemporary recordings aimed at adults. Therefore, any station that played newly released songs for adults would end up with a too-small playlist. The solution would be to combine contemporary (ie. current) adult songs with good vintage songs. And, that pretty much sums up what "martini" is mostly about.

To the best of my knowledge, the "martini" format isn't one of those engraved in stone, trademarked, name-brand formats with a strict definition. It's just a nickname to describe a format that mixes lots of different songs that grown-ups like, from lounge singers like Sinatra to modern artists with laid-back styles.

But I could be wrong. Maybe "Martini Radio" is a trademarked brand name.

Damn! I looked it up. Martini Radio is a brand name.

I knew it was too good to be true. Isn't there any station anywhere that picks a selection of music that works for their listeners in their market that they didn't buy from some consultant?

Sounds like WDUV in Tampa with some currents tossed in. It could work, but does atlanta have enough of an older base to support that.
Smooth Jazz WSJT in Tampa mixes soft AC, some currents, and jazz. It does well in Tampa Bay, but in Atlanta?

WJZZ comes close to this format sometimes.

An AC station that mixes in Sinatra would be like the origional Lite 106.7 in New York circa 1985. Do you think CC would do something like that having moved I assume all of their 'Lite" stations over to mainstream?

CC runs something like this on WLTW HD2 in New York. Although I think it could be a good idea for people like me, since CC abandoned it not only in NYC, but LA, SF. Charlotte, Richmond, and who knows where else-----why would they try it in Atlanta? Of course after the "Bull"-----who knows.
