Martini Lounge going LIVE and LOCAL in AM Drive

Starting Monday (7/7), Mike Bowe takes over mornings on 1340 WHAT. The show will be called "The Morning Martini". He also continues his 5-6pm "Happy Hour" show.

Could this mean that the station is starting to bring in a little money to start paying a larger staff? I certainly hope it is. It's always great to have live jocks and God knows there are a couple of good ones available around these parts! I can't wait to check it out next week on my way back to work.

Congrats to Mike!

I managed to catch some of Mike's show starting at 6 this morning.

He is a bit rusty, which he admitted. It seems strange, too, having him on the air and the V/T song title/artist also running. But these are gliches I'm sure they'll work out.

Strange also is they way they are running a contest. When you hear a song by Tony, "call and leave your name and number." Apparently neither he nor anyone else will be picking up the phone. Of course, I highly doubt there is anyone else in the building with him.

Mike Bowe is a true class act, and I'm really happy that he's back working full time on the radio again.

Methinks that signal problems will always hold this station back. I remember when growing up in South Philly (I live in Connecticut now), my family belonged to a swim club off of Penrose Avenue. One day, I discovered that if I turned my Zenith transistor a certain way, I could completely blank out WHAT, and in, clear as a bell, would be WMID from the shore! It became quite a novelty to be at the swim club, and listen to the "on the beach" station.
I did listen to WHAT as well (Jerry Blavat was on at night), Lloyd Fatman, etc, WDAS-AM and especially WIBBAGE.
I was never a big WFIL fan, but my sisters were.
Anyway, here is one of those stupid radio ideas for today. It would probably work if Martini lounge Radio could buy (and I realize this could be "pie in the sky") the 1360 WNJC in Washington Twp, and simulcast on there!
Hey, I've seen stranger things on this board!

Mike Bowe is the "real" est jock ever. And a fine human being as well. Best of luck!!

Ah the old Packer Park Swim club with the cabanas right in the heart of the oil refineries and toxic chemical plants LOL, its now brand new rental townhomes called the Enclaves. I used to go there around the 1964 era and Wibbage was blasting all over the place.

Friday, they did their noon Sinatra show live from a music store with a guest crooner. Not the smoothest remote I've ever heard, but still good to hear them getting out and about.

The station almost has a small market feel about it. Its like Mike Bowe and Bob Craine are talking with only you, like its "your" radio station. The music and the dj's really make it work.

The signal will always be a problem. But they constantly remind listeners that they stream. Given time, they may make this work.
