Marty and Jodi - gone?

There are some good shows left but they get forgotten. Bob Rivers has a fine show and though the show got a slow start in PPM it has been coming on in recent weeks. Kent and Alan have done very well in PPM and so have Jackie and Bender on the younger end. KKWF mornings have come on fairly strong this summer. Still the variety of years past is disappearing. Gone in the last five years are Cashman, Robin and Maynard, Mike West, Marty Riemer, Jim Dai, T-Man, Andy Savage. Most of those stations just play music or have music intensive shows. In that respect it is sad to see Marty and Jodi go. Their recent weeks in the PPM have been quite good, so it must have been money or something else.

Marty just announced the "Marty Riemer's Funny Festival Featuring: Bill Burr, Jeff Garlin, Nick Thune and Christian Finnegan at STG's Paramount Theatre January 15, 2010 8 pm" Tickets On sale: November 14 @ 10 am

'Marty Riemer is known for supporting live comedy through his previous radio programs and hosted comedy festivals, each selling-out in a matter of minutes. Previous festivals programmed and hosted by Riemer, and radio co-host Jodi Brothers, have included: The Flight of the Conchords, Jim Gaffigan, Mike Birbiglia, Tom Papa, Maria Bamford, Demetri Martin, and many more. This will be the sixth comedy festival Marty Riemer has hosted in Seattle.'

What is interesting about this is that this is first time I am aware of someone continuing a radio event they started/becase associated with/promoted not on another station, but without any station at all. It raises some interesting questions (a) does the Mountain now drop their 5:20 funny features (or have they already) so as not to 'compete' or support this? (b) or does it go the other way- Marty or the promoter buys time on the station to promote this even? Or (c) Marty and co has just as strong an event (or maybe stronger) using Facebook or social media in place of traditional media (KMTT) to promote this and if they do and it works, what does that say about the station and/or radio?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Best of luck to you Marty.
