While going up and down the dial, much to my surprise a familiar voice. Marvin Boone on 106.3. The bigger surprise is, at least in my world, there hasn't been any promotion. If a permanent thing what a great move by the station.

What time is he on? Is he doing a show or just PSA'a and voice overs?

He was on the morning drive and did mention he was "sitting in for..."
Just thinking "out loud", maybe his deal is fill in, sponsor endorsements, mobile DJ gigs, and on site remotes, or, maybe just a lark to do some air work for a week. Regardless, could be a "win-win" for both the station and Marvin. He stays in the market and does the format he is best known and the station gets the highest profile oldies guy in our market. Having the experience of running a budget-limited "local" station, that would be my plan. Make him the "face" of the station. Trade him a car and other perks. Sell sponsor endorsements and remotes.

Copied directly from their website including the "marvelous morning" thing:
WHAT IN THE HECK IS GOING ON??????

Where's Trevor Joe Lennon???"

When did Marvelous Morning start doing mornings?????

The answer is on the air

on True Oldies 106.3 FM

There was no change in their "On Air Staff" page. I guess the test drive over at Genesis didnt work out for Marvin. BTW after years of being in the Fountains shopping center in Palm Harbor (waaaaay outside the 60db contour of any of their remaining stations) WJQB has moved to Hudson.

Marvin started this past Monday. There was a blurb in the Tampa Tribune last weekend that was the closest thing to promoting his show.

Of course the city coverage of Tampa Bay is not comparable. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE NEW EAGLE? Why did they pull ahead from the usual pack at the bottom?

I was listening to him this morning and he was filling in for the morning personality Trevor Joe Lennon who called during the show. It appears that Marvin will be doing middays from what I can tell from the conversation. It does appear that WJQB has hired him.

Putting Marvin on middays is fabulous. Now what about PM drive? How about "weathertite mike"? Meanwhile, the silence on WXGL is getting very ominoius. Is this classified?

Mid days has always been Marvelous Marvins forte. His laid back style doesnt quite fit drive time. My understanding is that he was always the most popular mid day personality no mater what station he worked for.

just like the good old days of radio. Marvin is back on the air just like when stations competed for personalities.

[bHow about Mike Reeves for PM drive on WJQB and JoJo Walker for evenings.?][/b]

Sorry MS... I think you've already gotten quite a bit for your dollar. While I applaud 106 for hiring Marvin and keeping at least half the day local, I don't see where they're gonna come up with enough money to pay 2 more jocks. It's just not that big of an operation. Be happy for what they've done. By the way, Marvin IS the "oldies" jock. Mike Reeves... not so much.

Sorry, never was much for Muzak. I grew up on old time doo-wop and rock-a-billy.

WJQB's website is now showing that Trevor Joe Lennon, their morning guy that MM had been "sitting in" for has now "moved on". Bobby O'Shea has been sitting in for MM, so where is MM?? Well I googled him and found this:
Name: Marvelous Marvin Boone
What do you do at WHCR FM? WHCR Gold, Monday – Friday 9-10am and Sunday afternoon 2-4pm

http://www.whcrfm.com/page.asp?id=48
And it is our MM not a knockoff, it has that Q105 publicity shot with the dark glasses.

But heres the kicker, this particular WHCR FM is located at:
West Hull Community Radio Limited
573 Holderness Road
Hull HU8 9AA
Registered in England & Wales No 5267674

Of course there cannot be a legal call sign WHCR FM in England, is this a spoof or something?? Did CBS have him under some non compete where he could not work in America? Maybe playing oldies only since he did have that short stint at WWBA. But how will he do oldies at WJQB? Maybe he has moved to England and will voice track WJQB to escape the long arm of CBS? Inquiring minds want to know!!! Maybe I have spent too much time on my computer tonight. good night............

also on that list of jocks is jim quinn, he worked with marvin and the gang at Oldies 104.7 back four or five years ago.

it has to be some voicetrack gig.
