Mary Ellen Burns on WRKO

The former Channel 4/WBZ radio reporter, Boston Police Department spokeswoman and Big Dig spokeswoman turned up Saturday afternoon on RKO, hostng a talk show. Didn't sound half bad. Took some shots at Romney administration and Deval Patrick.
Wonder if they're grooming her for something.

Mary Ellen although she has been on TV where her pretty face cancels out her flat Irish Boston accent needs to take speech lessons.
Her voice is almost as bad as the other Herald reporter who was filling in for Jim Braude this Saturday on 96.9

Mary Ellen Burns is the reverse of the usual joke: she has a face for television but not the voice for radio. But she has the talent to correct that.

What is it about Boston that every washed up news hack gets a talk show?

You're right about the spelling of her name, it is indeed Mariellen.

Does that mean we can expect Kerry Healey to get her own talk show?
God, save the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

I listened to her flounder for about five minutes. She needs a co-host to bounce things off of. Laughs too much at her own attempts at humor.

Isn't this her first radio gig? I mean, for a first timer I didn't think she did sounded that bad. She did speak VERY fast (nerves?) and a little rough going to break but this could become interesting. I remember her getting bashed on WRKO constantly during the Tunnel Collapse for not returning calls, at least to the morning show. Now there are two women on-air (minus news anchors) for WRKO. Ellen O'Brien was on just before her with Ted Wayman. I wonder what Mr. Wolfe has up his sleeve. As the radio turns.

Let's give her a chance to prove herself.
Very unfair for all of us to make a judgment about Mariellen after just one program.

No lets not. Boston's not the place to start out with no experience.

She's had experience on the air, both radio and tv. She's also not the first talk host to "audition" at a Bosotn station. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt, for now.

Well, how do you explain how Howie Carr got a talk show. Sure he dissed Jerry Williams until killed him... but that was later. He first befriended Jerry after Carr wrote an article in the Herald about Jerry. And the rest as they say is history. Without Jerry Williams Carr would be just another ink stained wretch.
