Mary Galyean out at Citadel Lafayette

Looks like they are going to be making some changes from what I heard.

Long, long overdue IMHO.

When you inherit a great cluster, get outsold and outworked by Regent, and leave a legendary station like KXKC in ruin, it may take the dimbulbs in Citadel awhile to notice, but, they will notice eventually.

Ive noticed they are using a lot of syndication on the Lafayette stations nowadays. Even their crown jewel KSMB has Seacrap mid-days and some no-name syndicated night show now. I think Q95.5 has both morning and drive time syndicated shows.

Nice lady...but maybe stayed too long. Even if you have good ratings it certainly takes more than that in today's highly competitive world. You have to get out of the chair and go make calls, come up with ideas, use the internet and cell phones to extend your brand, etc. Harder to make a buck in today's radio world.

Mary is class-A people, and gave it her best for a long time under limited conditions. Understand from friends still inside 202 Gelded Bear Road, that the promo $$$ had pretty much dried up the past year. Yet, S*ithead-L zaps her. I had the pleasure of knowing Mary from her first day in broadcasting -- straight out of USL and into the lion's cage as Kenny Hazelett's news partner on album-rock K94. Considering the tricks with mirrors she's been having to pull off, gotta believe Mary the G must be feeling at least a tad more relieved than disgusted (although, plenty of reason for that, too). And maybe we should reserve some of our pity for the poor dude (dudette?) who follows her. Mary's always gotten along well with even her sternest competitors...and most certainly, with the market's buyers. Unless they give the newbie a lot more arrows for the quiver than they allowed Mary of late, that's going to be one tough row to hoe.

I haven't talked to Mary in a long time, have known her since the early 80's KSMB days. I worked for the competition, but used to sneak out with her and others from K94 occasionally for their station promo events since they were so much fun. Mary was 100% total radio. Whatever happened with Citadel I am certain was beyond her control. Likely, her hands were tied. Just my opinion.

Mary was with KSMB for a quarter friggin century....She should be commended for her endurance alone......Not to mention having to endure daily contact with the likes of Rusty Galloway.....Bobby Novasad....Scott Seagraves and Kenny Hazelett.

Interesting interjection there, jmkcool. After you'd posted something similar in putting down the late Roger Cavaness, I sent you an off-board, personal contact, asking who you were, since you seemed to be in a group of folks I might have known. You never had the courtesy to reply. With your latest climb up to where the light is and the real people congregate, I begin to understand why.
