Mary Glenn?

fwiw..her husband..the coach..just retired...so perhaps this was a planned thing by her...i guess some corp exec just got a little xtra in the golden parachute... ???

Is anybody safe? She left with #2 adults and #1 men...she has name value and a great person and reputation. Really disappointed in this decision

i was told a new op manager came in on the First...hence her sudden departure..but give her credit..she lasted a lot longer in this hostile radio enviroment than most people...maybe the timing was right since the 'coach" just retired a couple weeks ago..now nothing to do but sit on the porch in Castalian...best of luck Proud One !!

I miss the visits with her "Uncle Glen Glenn" and the "wet dream" song that she used to play every rainy day back when she was on 104.5 when it was the Fox and later the Arrow.

Moving this conversation forward, who is the new female jock that we are hearing on 105.9 now? And more importantly (I suppose), where is she voice-tracked from?

With all due respect to this new OM, none of decisions at his level are made in a vaccum. No one, I want to believe is so young and dumb to come in and start chopping people who are producing and have brand value. He might have been told to make that move. Good CC employees do as they are told with little questioning or they don't get promoted. They do, however, get blamed if the decision was a poor one.

In this case, sounds like some CC VP said "ok take one female off and put another one on...nobody will notice."

$10 bucks says Ms Steele will never see inside the city limits. Wait'll they have an event on Demonbreum St. or she has to say Lafayette St.
Get's em everytime.

more than anything it has to do with the almighty $$$$$ want classic rock in town..where else ya gonna go ?? Cue AC/DC...Segar...ZZTop, repeat as needed..so much cheaper to VT it from afar...so we don't need local talent anymore..look how money I saved ya Boss !!!! now pat me on the head..

Laura Steele has filled in for Kristi Lee on Bob and Tom Show.

Mary Glenn had a great run for 36+/- years. I wonder how many times she played Seger, Skynyrd, and Mellencamp?

So what do we do about it?

I mean, the way corporate radio is going they will be cutting another 1500 or so jobs this year from the "Talent" leaving cluster sales people and a few support staff to make sure the VT personalities have some promotional presence in the market.

I wonder...do we all head to the Internet and create KICK ASS SHOWS ans then market them ourselves? Is there a business model that would support this?

What other options are there for those of us who are "PERSONALITIES" and not VT material? Where will we do our shows?

email me through the board or send me an email at [email protected] with any ideas.

I wonder...do we all head to the Internet and create KICK ASS SHOWS ans then market them ourselves? the internet is littered with thousands of "radio" type shows via live 365, Shoutcast, etc..most are rank amateurs that like playing DJ or simply have a love for music, and want to play some tunes...I've listened to hundreds of streams but haven't found any stand alone shows that seem to make any money..eventually OTA radio will be nothing more than computers playing whatever format execs think is the 'Hot' deal today..I'd say it's halfway there now...it may be that listeners today just don't care for a personality anymore..just pure media delivery..but that can be found with their I Phones, etc..so why even bother to tune in ? the coveted NOW generation doesn't want commercials interrupting the music..the demo that grew up from the Beatle era thrived on personality radio ..it was exciting, fun, and magic...but they are a fast aging group now, myself included, and OTA radio doesn't even consider us a viable listening force as such..even though TV is swamped with background music from that generation...make sense out of that!! I'm not familiar with other markets outside of Nashville, ..I'm sure there are personalities on the air in larger markets...but the local market is trying to "save" itself into profits...not the way it's done..as for VT...I don't think the average listener knows the "voice" is coming from 500 miles away...the audience has been dumbed down for a long time now...my opinion...and worth twice what you paid for it.. :p lol

You are right, these kind of decisions aren't made in a vacuum. That said, I've seen it so many times in the past decade. Whereas companies and corporations and organizations once raised their leadership up through the ranks, now they just go ahead and give inexperienced people (because they're cheaper) the management jobs right off the bat, and those people continually do one of two things. They either follow blindly the poor choices of bean-counters who want to cut the people who make the most money (i.e., persons with experience and knowledge), or they stupidly get rid of older folks — because, well, they're older folks — no matter what they've done for the company.
