Mary Tyler Moore dead at age 80

This is the saddest celebrity news for me since Robin Williams.

I only saw a few episodes of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" but I'm sure I'd enjoy it.

After the sitcom she is best known for, which I liked a lot, I watched pretty much everything she did, even the show with David Letterman and the one with ED LASALLE. A memorable character played by John Astin.
 
Wow...a huge loss. Her show, the spin-off Rhoda, countless movies. One of the 20th century's female comedy icons is gone. RIP! Condolences to her family and friends.
 
I wonder if Me TV or Sundance will do any tributes with her show, or Cozi with The Dick Van Dyke Show. Considering that TV Land hasn't shown either in several years they'll possibly do a short bumper but not much else if even that.
 
And while looking up The Dick Van Dyke Show episodes have a look at some episodes from The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Definitely fun stuff. Mary Richards and Rhoda Morgenstern (Mary Tyler Moore and Valerie Harper), Ed Asner as her boss and Lorenzo Music as, "Hello, this is Carlton, your doorman", Rhoda's mother, Ida (Nancy Walker) and the ditzy neighbor (Cloris Leachman). Betty White was another one, and Ted Knight.

Edward Asner, Cloris Leachman and Betty White are the remaining living cast members, I believe - of the regulars I should say, as the cast was massive at the time. Very popular sitcom in the day.

Did you know Mary Tyler Moore had her own record label in the 1980s? The best known act on the label was country singer Holly Dunn. MTM Records was distributed through Capitol if I remember correctly...

That's true. Holly once referred to her former label as "the tax write-off." Ironically Holly also recently passed away.
 
IIRC.....Mary got her start in TV back in the late '50s on "Richard Diamond, Private Detective", starring David Jansen....She was his secretary -- and you NEVER saw anything but her LEGS!!
Until the VERY LAST episode!!
Certainly more than "just a pretty face"....but she did, indeed ".....turn the world on with her smile...."!!:)
 
A lot of obits yesterday played the opening sequence from the Mary Tyler Moore show, including the theme song "Love Is All Around." Interesting to note that the song was written and performed by Sonny Curtis, an original member of Buddy Holly's Crickets. He also wrote the 60s hit I Fought The Law. Sonny is still alive, and still performs. I always thought it was Steve Lawrence.
 
Lots of other Tributes too. CBS News is airing a special hosted by Gayle King tonite at 9PM Eastern. A Special Edition of 20/20 Friday Night at 10PM Eastern on ABC. The Sundance Channel will be airing the entire final season of The Mary Tyler Moore all day Saturday at 6AM Eastern. The Digi-Net Get TV is airing some specials as well. Select PBS Member stations will be rebroadcasting a 2015 documentary they did as well.
 
Last night's CBS air of "MARY TYLER MOORE, Love is all around," was a complete
disappointment. It could have been called "Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey reminisce."
Like advertising a Lobster feast but without much, if any, lobster............
