Mary Tyler Moore on Hallmark Channel

Hallmark has picked up Mary Tyler Moore http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2012/02/hallmark-channel-acquires-mary-tyler.html

Also, They have picked up the Bob Newhart Show. Wonder how or if this effects the ME-TV schedule? Mary Tyler Moore was initially a disappointment when originally syndication. Women did not watch the reruns. So it will be interesting to see how the series does on a network that programs mostly to women. Maybe with time it has become more fashionable with young women and will become the next Golden Girls.

I wouldn't think so. Golden Girls - despite the fact that it is about older women and originally aired 26 years ago - has a sense of humor that's snarky, and still quite consistent with the kind of comedies we watch today (IMO). I haven't seen Mary Tyler Moore , even in reruns, in many years...probably since around the time Golden Girls was brand new.

Perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I have a feeling it might come off as quite dated - consider the buffoonish Ted Baxter, Ed Asner chewing the scenery as the comedic Lou Grant (a opposed to the low-key Lou of Lou Grant), etc.

Many of you will remember that the original concept was to make Mary a divorcee, but the producers decided that was too daring for the time, and they changed her back story into a break-up with a boyfriend. The early 70s was the dawn of a new era, but network TV was a few years behind the curve.

On the other hand, there were many episodes (Chuckles the Clown's funeral, for example) that are timeless.

I have watched several episodes on ME-TV. Excellent writing and acting never goes out of style. However, my ex wife couldn't watch the reruns because of the outdated style of clothes they wore.

The 70's were certainly painful from an aesthetic point of view.
My only request is that Hallmark start scheduling these shows at a more reasonable hour.
Bob Newhart was running between 2 and 4 AM last I checked. (yes, I know, get TIVO....)

That's weird but probably shows a basic difference between males and females.

One of the reasons I like old shows is to see the cars of the period.

MTM and Both old and Newer Bob Newhart shows are on "FamilyNet". We get it here on TWC in Eastern Maine on Digital Channel 159. TWC just picked up FamilyNet a few months ago. I discovered it by accident one evening.
