I find ads by advocacy groups to be among the most annoying commercials on the air anyway. Nearly all are poorly written & produced...longer on phony emotion short on facts & information. Boston Teachers' Union & the Nurses Union ads are others that immediately come to mind.

The ads try to imply that there's an underlying sense of outrage in Massachusetts concerning gay marriage. I don't know about you, but after the first week or so that same sex couples started getting hitched, I forgot about the issue. Until these yahoos started running ads.

It's funny in a sense, because the ads are a panic tactic. Meaning Repubs and opponents of same sex marriage, before it was passed, cried how humanity will end in horrible Armageddon, the skies will open up, the Earth will shatter, all all that milarki. But then it passed, and life went on, and that scared the bageezes out of the Dennis and Callahan and Greg Hill wannabees, so know they have to grasp at some outrageous straw known as this judge they are trying to oust.

"Mass Citizens" is just the latest

If they're willing to spend the money to put these things on the air, good luck to 'em. Stations will put just about anything on the air to generate revenue. Has anyone heard the ads for "OverweightDate.com"?
Almost makes one nostalgic for the days of Gold Bond powder ads, listening to testimonials from itchers and scratchers.....

So "Mass Citizens For Marriage" is actually AGAINST marriage, if it is with two same sex partners. So they should be called "Mass Citizens Against Marriage" or "Mass Citizens Against Gay Marriage" or something. I'm confused.

Plus, how does gay marriage negatively impact traditional marriage? Sounds like the same crowd who were against mix-race marriages not too long ago. And quoted the Bible about it, yet!

Re: That'd be.....

any time I hear those commercials, I shut them off immediately although I've heard them through a few times... I've heard them on WBZ and WEEI (no surprise given the fact that Gerry Callahan and some of the people on the Big Show have made cracks about gay people)... who else broadcasts them? Curious...

Where are these people getting this money to buy these ads and why the lisping announcer in them? Is that some sort of bad joke? I have seen Judge Margaret Marshall on TV several times and she seems quite professional and conservative in her presentation. The demonizing of her doesn't fit her actual image or behavior. These nut cases behind this ad are way off the mark in trying to ruin her career. Is it because she was born in South African and most likely isn't a double eagle ( BC and BC Law) and not Hibernian? They seem "green" with envy. Where were they when the priest were raping little boys. Ah,,,, the sound of silence. Then again some of the backer of this ad might have been related to those priest.

Never even noticed the announcer? Anyway, for the last 2-3 years, this group has spots practically on the hour, on WBZ overnights. Their media buys are pretty significant for a small group,I've heard them other places. Some of them are unintentionally funny, others are rather pathetic. Emil Gogan(sp?) is the legislative hero of the ads. Margie Marshall has had about 30 months of neg. ads thrown at her and I have the feeling the only people who have noticed is BZ's accounts receivable dept. when the checks keep coming in. I have yet to hear even 1 caller reference the ads.
* I saw a portion of an E.Rooney(last week) interview with Justice Marshall and the 5min's or so I saw, nothing about the ani-Marshall'ers came up.

Re: Follow The Money ?

Yesterday afternoon (February 16th), I saw three small planes fly over Norwood with anti-Marshall banners. Norwood has a busy airport that's a major "general aviation" (read "small planes") facility, and I originally thought the three planes may have taken off from there. The website says they took off from Fitchburg.

One of the banners included the website address (www.massnews.com) of Mass News, a conservative publication.

Such advertising isn't cheap; I suspect it's more expensive than spots on most radio stations.

Re: Follow The Money ?

I guess the ghost of that dead alcoholic Tailgunner Joe Mac Carthy(R Wisc} { read that Joe Mick Car dee] still lives in the body of the owners of Mass News. If you have ever read it there is still "a Commie under every bed". They ain't too fond of Jews or others who are not "their kind" either. "Mass News" the worst drivel of fear mongers when they are really fish mongers in the Shakespearian sense.

Re: Follow The Money ?

IT is very sad that WEEI allows these kind of commercials.
There's no place for it in 2006

The problem is that political advertising (including advocacy ads), prescription drug advertising, and long-form infomercials are the only categories of radio and TV where spending has gone up. Spending on radio and TV spots in virtually all other advertising categories has gone down.

If other kinds of advertisers weren't reducing the amount of money they were spending on radio and TV advertising, maybe these sports would be much less frequent, if heard on the air at all.

I think the problem is that it was NOT passed. Instead, the state's Constitution was subverted when a mandatory consitutional convention (called by the voters) was cancelled by Tom Birmingham without an up/down vote. Then a supreme jud. court with quesitonable impartiality forced the issue. What is wrong with the people being permitted to vote on the issue that they asked to vote on? If there is any fear, it is directed at the prospect of the people being given the right to vote.

Alluding anti-Semitism and then complaining of "fear mongers" in the next sentence. LOL!

Remember, we can thank the proponents of "campaign reform" for a lot of the shadowy groups that produce these type of ads.
