Massive Clear Channel Layoffs

As we all probably know, Clear Channel is swinging the axe on around 1500 employees today, 7% of their workforce, and they are going to be using 'national formats' or something along the lines with more voice-tracking.

If anyone finds out what goes on in Greenville, Columbia, or Charleston please share it here.

Wow, the board is actually working.

Saw on R-I earlier that 16? are gone in Greenville/Spartanburg. Production director is gone in Chas.
Does anyone know who got the axe in GSP? Sales, on-air, behind the scenes...everything seemed normal today, but I'm not sure what went on and when.

Sounds to me like they are going for the more national hub-delivered system. But they want top-performing stations...gonna be hard to do that.

It sounds like clear channel is moving toward one size fits all radio or radiall. I can understand part of it with the way the US economey is going down the tubes money wise, but is it having to tighten the belt or show the stock holders more money or is it both. I guess soon we will have true network radio programming of both music and dj's like TV does now with local stations often being just an outlet to hear what's on the national feeds in your area, kinda like satellite or internet feeds that are the exact same thing no matter where you are.

Anybody up to speed on the CC pink slips in Columbia? Who got one? My heart goes out to all of you. Whether you're sales or programming, hit me up and I'll do what I can to network for you.

Does anyone know who was pink-slipped in Greenville? I haven't listened much but everyone seems to be on air. I'm guessing it was mostly sales.

sales....the ones closest to bringing in the money......smart!

Would you prefer they fire the rest of programming, Brian? 95% of stations market 51 and below are already working with a skeleton crew as it is. C'mon Brian, you sound like they put you in sales. lol

From the front page of this site:

According to Tom Taylor’s “Taylor on Radio-Info,” at Clear Channel’s cluster in Greenville-Spartanburg,South Carolina, names were called out over the office intercom.

These guys never cease to amaze.

FYI, it was 9 salespeople, the promotions director, and some parttimers in GSP.

Wow. What a way to find out about your job.
Was listening to WMYI today and thought how sad and lifeless it sounds. That station has pretty much gone down the toilet over the past 2 years. There is virtually no musical flow.

Still...it sounds better than that wreck down the hall at 96.7...not going there

obama says we are to pick ourselves up. it look like the entercomunists are still taking sides. i thought this was an objective room.

Who is that on for Lizz Ryals today? I know I've heard her before, but not sure what her name is or if she's VT'd. Hope Lizz didn't get the axe...she has always been pleasant to listen to.

oh hell no....i think most salespeople were forged from the fires of hell....im just saying,....if it's money they are hurting for,....why fire the "mostly commissioned" sales staff?

thats exactly what happened on "Black Tuesday" in the 90's when Multimedia owned the WFBCs.....Greg Anderson would call out over the intercom "Danny Pridmore, call 201....Danny 201" etc etc etc we all were waiting on our names to be called to the chopping block

tom taylor goes with unreliable sources. the number of jobs lost in greenville-spartanburg was less than he posted. one of my long time friends in greenville was laid off last week. the intercom rumor is not true. it is sad that someone would try to capitalize on someone else's misfortune. however, we can capitalize on people's fortune like selling bobble heads of the president's daughters.
