MASSIVE LAYOFFS AT CLEAR CHANNEL THIS TUESDAY!

That's too bad... it's been a little over a year since it happened last (November 07), but it seems to be back to haunt all the remaining employees of CC!!

It appears that it will take place on Inauguration Day so that it will receive minimal media coverage/attention.

Good luck everyone at CC!

Who says the media has to wait for a story to actually happen before reporting it? Big stories already in NY Daily News, Wall Street Journal, and all over the blogosphere. If the goal was to slip in without any notice, too bad.

Thanks for the breaking news. We would never have known had you not started this thread.

I think it's sickening that people are posting about others losing their jobs.

There's nothing wrong with people posting the TRUTH about people who are going to or who have lost their jobs (that also puts you at odds with Tom Taylor from this site who has been reporting on this for many weeks). What makes me sick is how sites like Radio and Records scrub the real reason behind many a job loss.

As for the OP's post, there was no reason to start this thread in this forum without some solid rumors of who is going locally. We already know the story from the NY Post, WSJ and Tom Taylor from this site.

4UH8SIMBKAGN, Thank you-- I guess my intent was to see if others know of specific details as to who is going locally, especially on-air talent (if any).

Even if someone knew, do you think they could say anything. I'm sure CC is keeping it very close to the vest. But, what you want is to speculate about which people are going to lose their jobs. That sounds real productive. You do realize these are people's lives we're talking about.

Hey Radioresearcher, people are entitled to their questions, thoughts, and opinions on this website-- that's why it was created. And if you can't handle the truth, maybe you shouldn't be here.

It's inevitable; people will be losing their jobs and it is what it is. They will lose their jobs whether I post about it on this site or not.

I am a listener to CC stations, and I think I have the right to ask for others to share with me (if they like) if they know of any on-air talent that may be leaving.

So really, just get over it.

You absolutely have your right to your opinion. It just amazes me that almost every board where there's a CC station, we have "Clear Channel Layoffs" as one of the threads. No kidding. It will affect all markets and quite a few people. Do we need a thread in every single market prior to Tuesday? The announcements begin tomorrow so I'm sure we'll all find out.

I think most of the professionals on this board know people inside CC and are concerned for them. I'm just saying I think we should be a little more compassionate that's all and I don't see a lot of that.

Any of us that conduct business know that job loss of any kind will prolong the recession we're in. Even when you don't think it can affect you personally, there's a way it can. Circuit City closing cost us 34,000 jobs ... that's a gigantic number.

Ok, I can totally understand your point. Yes, it is upsetting that many people are losing their jobs. And I apologize if I upset those "professionals."

However, I, personally, am concerned mainly about the on-air staff and the loyal listeners of the stations.

It's not an attack against a certain individual or any particular station.

I'm just curious, that's all.

I find it funny how all of a sudden talking about people losing their jobs is not cool. When all year long, we talk about who would sound better at what station, well...if we all got what we wanted, that would require some people losing their jobs. I guess its ok, if its someone you dont like.

FYI, the "conservative" estimate for job losses in the greater Los Angeles area is 164,000 for 2009. I think that is way low as other reports have suggested. I expect double or triple. http://laist.com/2009/01/19/report_los_angeles_area_will_lose_1.php Thankfully a lot of them will be illegal aliens who need to return home. There's no work here and won't be for a long time.

Just heard from a friend who works at Clear Channel that they have a mandatory staff meeting called for 3PM Tuesday, 6 radio stations in the group.

No indication what it's about.

it's a shame that the second largest city in the country only has one real radio station that plays music with a full staff of live DJ'S. Radio is dead.

Haha, yeah. I know.

I'd love to work there, but I don't speak spanish.

You think there are live DJs 24/7 on other music services? How naive are you?

Probably to hand out the year-end bonuses they forgot to give out before New Years.

These stations have DJs / Personalities 24/7 live in LA all day...

KSCA, KRCD, KLVE, KLAX, KXOL, KSSE, KBUE, KHJ, KWIZ. That is more than "one" and all are "real radio stations."

David, is KLAX back to being live and local 24/7? Last I heard they were running jockless from the end of Lupita Del Castillo's show at midnight until the morning show at 4.

Well Tuesday came and went and there certainly was a blood bath in other cities, namely San Diego but what about here in LA. The absolutely horrible Bryan Suits and that crosseyed Kennedy is still on the air, so did Los Angeles escape the guillotine? I was hoping they would be axed and KFI would bring back Phil Hendrie.
