RE "did you get that tape of Dan York you were looking for???"
Good morning from Atlanta, and the 2008 Radio Advertising Bureau convention.

what did you need it for??
"Painless Aircheck Meetings."
Aircheck review DOESN'T need to feel like visiting-the-dentist!
How to de-fang the important technique coaching process?
Use SOMEONE ELSE'S mouth!
When I visit stations I work with, and meet with the on-air staff, we listen to airchecks...FROM OTHER MARKETS.
Then -- as Linda Richman used to say on Coffee Tawk -- "discuss."
Removing pride-of-authorship-tension changes the process.
Talent I coach ALWAYS ask "will you be bringing new airchecks?"
Often, it's easier to hear mistakes YOU are making by hearing-SOMEONE ELSE-make-'em.
Ditto for technique that clicks.
So I bring airchecks that are particularly instructive of technique to emulate or avoid.
We listen, and I ask, "Whattya think?"
Want a DEADLY aircheck meeting? Play tape by someone-attending-the-meeting.
Want a USEFUL, LIVELY aircheck meeting? Play tape-from-a-W-station when-you-visit-a-K-station.
1980s war story: When I was managing WTOP/Washington, I'd "lurk" KYW/Philadelphia.
Once a year, I'd check-into the Philly Airport Marriott, and log the market's top-rated all-news AM.
Lots of room service, lots of notes.
It's VERY instructive, hearing someone-else-tilt-at-the-same-windmill you do, because there's no squirming.
"Objectivity," y'know?
