Matt Allen? Dave Barber?? Dan Yorke???

Now HERE'S a conspiracy theory!

Someone just Emailed me and theorized that Young Dan Hisself is Joint-Chinese!
Now THERE'S a conspiracy theory.
Hey, wasn't it P.T. Barnum who said "there is no 'bad' publicity?"

MY theory: he/she is a WPRO insider, for three reasons:
1. nickname, not real name;
2. posts things here only-an-insider-would-know; and
3. seems less-than-happy-in-his/her-work (in a workplace that seems LOTS-less-happy than in days of yesteryore).

If you want to support Dan Yorke, do what I do, buy stock in the company that owns his station, CDL.
It's on sale, @ $1.30-something on Friday ($11 or so a year ago).
Bail @ $3, and you've doubled your money.

Good morning from Washington,
HC

PS: Coming soon: GREAT photos of The Great WPRO Blizzard of '78, including these friends-you-remember: Brother Bill! Magee Hickey! (http://wcbstv.com/bios/Magee.Hickey.WCBS.9.8619.html) Berko + Gio! Narragansett Beer! Franz Laubert!

Holland,

The big assumption in your financial plan is that the stock will ever get back to $3.

Lately, that does seem like a big assumption, eh?

The counterpoint being that the breakup value of the company is waaaaaaaaay north of its stock price.

But, to attain breakup value, you actually have to break up a company.

Prediction: We'll see $1.25 before $2.

What you are explaining here Holland is downward averaging. It's for guys like you who believe that the stock may move back up and you could be right. When asked when the best time to sell is, Warren Buffet replied, "Never"! I find myself more in line with Jim Cramers thinking lately.

BTW I am NOT Dan. Why? Because of my questioning of WPRO management and/or lack of it. I have long been a critic of Ms. Hayes. She must have some love affair with Danny (as he calls himself). Example, just this week Danny told his audience he was going to, "stick my microphone up Billy Murphy's wahzoo by Friday". So what does Danny do on Friday? He calls in sick! He wasn't sick, he was embarrassed because Mr. Cianci is scoring all the good interviews. I would have thought Danny would have had AstroGlide at the ready Friday morning when Mr. Murphy was on the Trail. But. . . no Danny to be found. He promises his listeners one thing and then doesn't deliver. He is all show and NO GO. This is an employee that management coddles and rewards. He must have pictures.

Hi Dan. I know you are reading this while sitting in front of your computer eating Meatloaf. I hope you feel better soon.

Can we get back to what-comes-out-the-speaker?

J-C: You may not be Dan Yorke, but you DO seem to be a WPRO insider.

2 suggestions:

1. Be careful. I'm told that management disapproves of employees participating here.

2. Decorum seems rare here, but I think that alluding to Dan's health situation is inappropriate. TOO personal. Off-limits. This board is lots-more-useful when it's used to discuss what-comes-out-the-speaker.

And about the quantity and quality of airtime being devoted to talking-about-a-cable-channel:

1. Under-the-circumstances, WPRO would be prudent not to be giggling on-air about Dave Barber's career.

2. This dissing of Speaker Murphy is as arcane as it is silly. Even properly-handled, the topic is moot to Massachusetts listeners, who populate some of the Providence market's most important Arbitron Zip Codes. Meanwhile, dang-near the-first-half-of networks' evening news shows were about this latest horrific campus shooting...the ultimate NIGHTMARE of parents who are News/Talk radio's demographic bulls-eye. Yet local radio is unavailable to offer listeners their cathartic voice on this important story?

Salty would shake his head.

You are right Holland. I didn't discuss Dans ongoing health issues, because that IS too personal. Instead, I just mentioned he was out sick on Friday. His producer Matt filled in. What did he talk about? The state run TV station! Then he went to some topic he did the week before about schools paying for kids breakfast. How do these people come up with topics to talk about? Here we have another campus shooting about a year after Virginia Tech. A recent shooting at a fat girls store (Lane Bryant). Could this happen here? Are people afraid? I sure worry about my family. We sure have our share of fat girls! You know Danny used to be fat I am told.

Speaking of Dan Yorke's Appearance

I was at the Anne Murray Concert last Saturday Night with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Dan Yorke opened up the show. He came out on a Saturday Night at an upscale event wearing jeans and a casual shirt. He absolutely looked ridiculous dressed that way at that event. He tried to warm up the crowd by talking politics, it went over like Chris Dodd's campaign for President.

SINCE you mentioned it...

He also did a walk-on at the Peter, Paul & Mary concert @ PPAC last year.
He looked like a mope.
And rambled, of course, ABOUT HIMSELF.
(Alluding to recent show topics that concert-goers go-to-concerts to-forget-about for an hour).

When the orchestra conductor came on-stage, he got an audience laugh alluding to how-long-Young Dan-yakked!

As Senator Dodd so often says, "Lookit..."

Whatever-happened-to the-tried-and-true?
Here are the dance steps Jay Clark taught The Pro Personalities:
1. jog-out-like-a-game-show-host,
2. quickly-engage-the-audience ("HELLO!");
3. say "I'M [name] "FROM WPRO;"
4. pause QUICKLY for/if applause, seem flattered;
5. do-some-sort-of QUICK cheap-applause-trick,
6. tell-a-QUICK-joke appropriate-to-the-moment, then
7. just-as-quickly, introduce the act (during-which-applause, you exit).

When all-of-the-above totals 45 seconds, it's twice-as-effective as if it's 60 seconds.

Holland, that is a DJ from a MUSIC station doing the intro, not a talk host doing the intro....if I were running promotions at the Trail, wouldn't have him out there alone, would have paired him w/ Tanya or David at Lite (really, in Anne Murray's wheel house); but that is another thing entirely.
My guess is Joint Chinese works for the Phoenix as why Matt was talking about School Breakfasts is because it WAS ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE PRO JO! (and yes, Holland, that would include those that get out to Bristol Cty, Ma).
In these times where budget problems are hitting RI & MA (Deval is sitting in front of his ouija board w/ his lucky rabbits foot in one hand and his lucky horseshoe in the other praying for 1 of the 3 proposed MA casinos to get moving this year), the school breakfasts are a hot topic for the expense of them....while I don't want to see any kid go hungry, there weren't such programs 20-30 years ago while I was going to school and it would have helped a number of kids that i went thru school with; but that is what i thought families were supposed to be about at some point....

Did she dedicate Danny's Song to him?

You may be onto something...

Body language is body language.
I'm not saying belt-out "Volare." Just don't be such a mope.

Attention-span-of-those-there-for-a-concert for-something-that-postpones-the-concert is brief.

He says he's NOT ignoring us!

Good morning from Texas,

I spoke with Dave Barber, and told him "You must be HOWLING at this thread!"
"But," I asked, "How can you resist the temptation to weigh-in? I've seen DaveBarber post in OTHER threads, a while back."

"I forgot my password," he replied.
He says he's NOT ignoring us.

In Jack Benny voice: "WELL!"

Or, cue first-four-notes-of Theme from "Dragnet."

And let the record show: Before both were TV shows, they were on the radio...

and that Block Islander has been satirized on Gio & Kim by Craig Gas withing the last year....OK Holland, linked it back in....now back to being a radio topic as Gio would love to interview him. Next Time you see him at the Gen store, give him Gio's number....
