Matt and Chris gone from WCTK.com.

I may have started something. And for that, I think I'm sorry. But I'm not sure.

Mike Sheridan

HALL COMMUNICATIONS Country WCTK (CAT COUNTRY)/PROVIDENCE morning personalities MATT St. PETER and CHRIS WHITTEN have exited. WHITTEN has been with WCTK since 1998 and has spent the last 7-years on mornings. St. PETER joined WCTK in 2007 from sister Country station WOKO/BURLINGTON.

We’ll have news of their replacement as soon as details become available.

That's from AllAccess.

Jeez, what's the deal at CTK? I'm hearing horror stories about Steve G. Someone stop him before he destroys the only good station left in the market!

Why both of them? To be honest this Matt would probably be OK in another time slot because he comes across as more of a straight jock than a morning guy. Chris used to be very rough around the edges but they've smoothed out and I assume the audience is OK with him. So pair him up with somebody else. Now they've lost both drive time shows in two weeks. Not good.

There has to be something else on the table. Chris had 2 chances, proved he couldn't do what managment wanted

I have no idea what the ratings look like (since they're embargoed in Providence and New Bedford), but I think overall the country boom nationwide has dwindled a bit. WCTK sounded great in the morning with Tad Lemire heading the morning show and Rob Parraglia (Robby Bridges) sounded great in the afternoon. We'll see what happens and I'm sure they'll rebound.

Now what did Mike Sheridan do?

So what's the deal there? If you're not number 1 you're fired? The comfort level from the listener standpoint at WCTK is not what it used to be, but I don't blame the air personalities. Yes the station sounds good in terms of imaging, excitement, promotions, etc but I'm making those judgements from a radio standpoint. Judging from a pure listener standpoint (which I find difficult to do) may be another matter.
Rick Everett leaves (for which he should get a smack in the head).
Tad leaves (he gets a smack in the head too) so that morning show with Tad & Chris & Loren Beliveau who played a good part in the show is gone.
Chris holds the fort down solo. For this he deserves a pat on the back but he gets the smack instead.
Matt gets hired & since he came from another Hall station, they were well aware of his work. So what if he's more of a jock? Many morning teams are composed of the jockish type & the typical morning person. It's a good balance.
Mike Sheridan goes south & yes he is a major part of any show he's on.
Frankly, if they had hired Kenny Chesney & Brad Paisley for the morning show the numbers probably would have eventually suffered.
The general tone of the morning show may have changed, but I have no doubt that's a programming decision & not something to blame on the personalities. So look at what the PD has done & decide what maybe he should not have done.
I hate to say it, but it's getting difficult to really bond with any station in this market in spite of pretty much everyone sounding good. Paul & Al may be the last remaining ones who know that reinventing yourself is not a good thing. Tad & Brian haven't been discovered by enough people so they remain a cult favorite.
Matt & Chris didn't let anyone down. Wake me up when it's 2005.

Another question is, what does CTK do in the mean while looking for a new morning show?

We'll know Monday morning. I've never heard any of the weekenders sub on the morning show so maybe the PD will do it. Maybe Kenny Chesney & Brad Paisley will do it.

I agree that Chris should have been kept. He was part of the show when it was a winner and could be again. Nothing against Matt. He's just the wrong guy for the wrong slot. Now I want to hear the dirt on the nightmare stories about the PD.

What about Tad Lemire going back there? Would he have a non-compete? Wouldn't he have had one when he left for Coast? Was this ratings decline across the board or mornings only. If WCTK was part of a cluster this might not have happened as I'm sure they're not the only morning show not doing well.

Anyway, welcome to my shoes.

I assume that was Kevin Lawrence filling in this morning. I listened only long enough for one break and he just called himself Kevin. Sam Stevens is on now. The two midday shifts are short there so it's easy to just shuffle people around and give them longer shifts for now until they hire a morning person.

Totally agree. Can I smack them when you're done? Why would anyone leave a seemingly stable radio station to work for Clear Channel... or any of the big Cs for that matter?

Two fantastic radio people... one now out of work and the other probably fearing for his job at the moment.

Hall seems like a company that values talent, kind of like Beasley. Why would you walk away from that? I'm sure they had their reasons, but it would take a lot for me to exit a company that invests in talent and values their contributions.

The PD isn't a bad guy, he's just business minded. I mean, take a look. He worked for a lot of different stations before making a move to WCTK, most of which were corporately owned unlike Hall. Hall has that wholesome family-run appeal and maybe it's not exactly what the PD is used to. He's thorough and goes by the books; despite the fact that the morning show was loved by fans, it might not have been loved in ratings placement.

Rick Everett should go back to WCTK!

I think that Rick might well be the only person who can stop the bleeding there...

Rick Everett is one of the best PDs and nicest guys that I have ever worked with! Being the consummate pro he is, he can be successful programming ANY format! But..in his heart of hearts, he loves CHR and Rock. Does anyone remember the summer just before Lite 105 came on? Rick got to program WPJB that summer and with no money and the existing jocks in two short weeks turned that station (as All Hits 105-FM) into the most exciting rock station Providence had ever seen since the original WPJB signed on in the '70s! The ratings more then DOUBLED that summer! Then the owners pulled it away from him and turned on The Lite!

Why do I bring this up? Simple. Clear Channel dangled 101.5 and 93.3 in his face and he bit. I'm sure that he didn't know that he would only be a figurehead there-running two voice tracked jokes of radio stations. The irony is that if the IDIOT General Manager sales whore there (and no I don't know who he is but based upon his management he surely MUST be an idiot sales whore) had supported Rick, those stations would both probably be in the top 5 now.

I agree with what you said about Rick. WCTK did great with him and he was loved there like family. Even after he took the jobs programming for Coast and B, he maintained an excellent rapport with the folks at Hall. Pretty certain that his movie to clear channel was based on an attractive salary in conjunction with resume trophies. I wouldn't be surprised if Hall tried to coax him back.

hmmmm...any postings for new show talent out there for this spot?

Rick Everett worked at CC in the 90's. Corwin was probably looking for someone with experience & a good feel for the Providence market. Pure & simple without a doubt its Everett. So the offer had to be really sweet for him to leave Hall.
He brought WCTK to the #1 spot. Maybe he will again?????? Hopefully the new morning guy from Cub Country does well..

From what I hear, shortly after Matt and Chris were fired from the morning show...the PD got fired as well.
