Matt Cord on WMMR

I tuned in this morning he is filling in for Pierre,
I find him extremely dull and uninteresting
Also what is up with the musical direction they went from
Bruce Springsteen???????? to Pearl Jam to ZZTop?
Pick a format please

The best excuse for Blah Cord is Pierre is on Vacation. It would be cool if instead Mr. "voice of the sixers", they instead let Joe Conklyn fillin. You all know that conklyn rules. Hell, that was his Ozzy skit we all heard this past weekend, and if you listened to MMR for any length of time previous to P&S's morning show, you would all agree that Joe Conklyn can "out-pierre".....Pierre Robert'. I remember a short while back Conklyn was on-air with Pierre doing nothing but mocking him in his best Pierre voice as Pierre laughed and defended himself while Conklyn roasted him. And Conklyn is a hell-of-alot funnier that Doormat Cord's dry delivery of everything. Matt Cord belongs on NPR or someplace where dry witless bland delivery belongs.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I give you a standing ovation for that.

MMR rarely plays Springsteen anymore. I heard it too. It was a workforce block requested by a listener. Gotta like a station actually playing requests, even if they are a bit out of format. It's one of the few times MMR steps out of their narrow playlist. I'd sure rather hear that than Guns N Roses...AGAIN. All in all, I like MMR's format. They play a lot of classic rock, and some new rock. It is a format. It's called "rock". I like the format, I just wish they would loosen up a bit and play more songs. The playlist is too narrow to make it listenable for long periods of time.

Matt Cord is a very laid back jock, but he is easy to take. A warm and likeable guy with a somewhat dry sense of humor. Be glad he's not a puker like Jackson.

Any yeah, Conklin is a funny guy. I'd like to hear more from him.

Wonderful...But, can't that be said of 99.9% of the rock jocks out there??

Matt Cord is nothing special...Philly radio is so lame.

That cannot be said of most jocks. The majority of them put on phoney personalities, and are in love with the sound of their own affected voices. Very few sound natural. Matt is one of those, easy going, natural, not fake. YSP has no one on their staff like that, except Howard, but that's a whole different catagory.

Hey, what the hell is wrong with all the people who post stuff on this website?
Are you all a bunch of whining complaining idiots or what.
You're all just jealous because you're not as good as Matt Cord.
He's one of the best radio personalities in Philly.
All Ya'll should just shut up and Rock or get a life and get off this website!

I really hope this was done in a sarcastic tone.

I am holding out hope that if it wasnt, it was in fact Matthew Cord defending himself.

I am praying that its not another one of the Y-Refugees crying out for their fallen icon and fallen station.

I fear its the later.

Yeah, I don't get why so many people are down on Matt. While I don't think he is god's gift to radio, I find him smooth, likeable and informative. Why he is on AFTER that puker Jackson on MMR is beyond me, though Jackson is better than Cousin Ed, IMO.

Be careful about saying anything remotely bad about Matt Cord on these boards... Apparently he's some sort of deity around here...

I've said this about him before. I said how boring I think he sounds at night. I legitimately liked him in afternoons. I thought his smooth, polished style was a welcome sound in the afternoons, but at night it's just boring. It puts you to sleep, which on a station that's "rocking"is a bad thing. Ditto for mornings. They outta just flip flop him and that annoying afternoon guy they have. Myabe that guy's act would play well at night, I personally know that Cord's act plays well in the afternoon.

- time out!
The fact is, that the origins of a Rock, or dare a say AOR jock is that of presenting and being knowledgeable about the music that the radio stage is,( and sometimes is not playing)
Now rock radio has decided to take the guess work out by playing the same 400 songs and rotate them ever 3 months for 400 other overplayed songs. So as "rock Jock" if you tell one more person that "that was Bad Company, from the band Bad Company from the record Bad company" one more time, there will be a sniper 1/2 mile away from where you parked and they will shoot you.
Now my example is lame but the fact is rock jocks are not, and in most cases don't like the sound of top 40 jocks delivery. THAT, right now is where rock is at. Rock is also at the 2.9 "Special Olympics" of programing. (sorry for the swipe) So the jocks are not bad if they know what they are talking about, the programing of music is always up for discussion, is there a better way to present rock, so radio is a help, not hindrance, to it's growth?

p.s I read this board a lot and Drake you are very frustrated. You really should talk to someone
Edited by DrJonnyFever on 07/20/05 04:54 PM.
