Matt Groening does it again

Once again...the creator of "The Simpsons" has taken another jab at Fox News Channel on his Fox-produced show airing on the Fox network. At the opening of last nights episode, a helicopter flies by at the very beginning of the opening sequence with a Fox News logo, and underneath it says "Unsuitable For Viewers Under 75". ;D

I wonder if Rupert Murdoch notices. And I wonder why Groening gets away with it time after time again. And I hope continues to do so.

The funny thing is, if this were about ten years ago, they would be making the same exact joke about CBS.

Because the show has brought in a boat load of money?

I've posted this same message in response to posts that assume Rupert Murdoch must be some right wing extremist. Murdoch is a "show me the money" guy - just bring in the ratings, and he's OK with ir.

This, times a thousand. The only reason Rupert is running Fox News is because it makes him money. Just like in the 80's he saw another hole for edgy TV, and filled it with the likes of In Living Color, Married with Children, and the list goes on and on.

While Fox News is extremely conservative, Fox Networks is extremely not. Look at series like It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Shield, Raising Hope, American Dad, Family Guy, or even House to a certain extent. None of which are very conservative friendly.

So much so that many Fox affiliates, even O&O ones, look to distance their news departments as far away from Fox News as possible.

As soon as liberal news can show it makes money, look for another News channel from Fox ;).

Proof:

[1] Asked if there is any truth to recent press describing his newfound piety, Murdoch replies: "No. They say I'm a born again Christian and a Catholic convert and so on. I'm certainly a practicing Christian, I go to church quite a bit but not every Sunday and I tend to go to Catholic church -- because my wife is Catholic, I have not formally converted. And I get increasingly disenchanted with the C of E or Episcopalians as they call themselves here. But no, I'm not intensely religious as I'm sometimes described." Interviewed in 1992. Nicholas Coleridge, Paper Tigers (1993), p. 487.

Note that this statement could just as easily describe a liberal as a conservative, and would not describe an extreme conservative in the slightest.

I've said this before too: Rupert Murdoch first made his fortune operating tabloid newspapers in England that featured bare-breasted women. The regular Fox network has consistently pushed the censorship envelope more than the other major networks.

More than a few episodes ofThe Simpsons over the years have actually featured animated versions of Rupert Murdoch, and these scenes are usually not flattering to him. I don't think he provides the "celebrity voice," but it's clear that he either has a sense of humor about this, or just doesn't give a s**t.

I have no doubt that Murdoch is a political conservative - most billionaires are. But it would be a mistake to suggest that he is in agreement with the right-wing agenda of Fox News. What he is in agreement with is that Fox News has found its niche and makes him a whole lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Many of the same posters here assume that NBC Universal is dominated by liberals because MSNBC has liberal commentators. They somehow manage to ignore the fact that most CNBC commentators are conservative, and that the entire purpose of MSNBC is to increase ratings and make NBCU a whole lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Please wise up, people.

Rupert did appear as himself in one episode, and it was, like the other appearances, a little jab. No reason not to have some fun with it.
