Matthew Dowd is out at MSNBC

They seem to have replaced all of their opinion commentators with news reporters and editors.

Last night's 7PM opinion show was hosted by legal expert Ari Melber. They're sticking to straight news right now.
That won’t help ratings.

Cancel culture, eh? Thought they were against that.

I actually saw the segment live. Dowd spoke the truth about a difficult topic, which is what honest journalists are supposed to do. There were also plenty of counterpoints offered by other contributors, so Dowd's perspective wasn't offered in a vacuum. However we are now in an era where all media must show fealty to the Supreme Leader.

Hope for the best with MSNBC/MSNow is going now they have to confront this sensitive topic. Also it will be interesting to see how the “News” team is going to form once Versant Media is completely cut from NBC Universal.

We seen the rest of the News team move from MSNBC to NBC News Now since the Comcast/Versant spinoff was announced in 2024.

Social media feeds. Mainstream media coverage. Talking to people. Haven't seen/heard a single person say they don't care or don't have an opinion about it. You??

Here's what I said:

Their regular audience likely doesn't care about this story.

Key word is "likely." Lots of other things to watch on TV besides the same :20 clip of the shooter jumping off the roof over & over.

They don't do "breaking news" for ratings. Their regular audience likely doesn't care about this story.

Until they catch the killer, they're sort of stuck in this waiting mode. The longer this takes, the worse it is for ratings.
Traditionally more people would tune into CNN for breaking news. Good or bad news I’m sure they made money off of it.

I don't understand all the outpouring on the media. Wasn't he relatively unknown to the general public? The first time I even knew Kirk was after South Park made an episode about him.

He was to Trump as James Carville was to Bill Clinton and Karl Rove was to George W. Bush: The political operative that was listened to the most.

Charlie Kirk was not an “Unknown” but he was known among people who attended Trump rallies around the country and watch the cable talk shows where he appeared as a pundit to know him. Sure those that don’t watch Cable talk shows or attend Trump rallies would not know him. He had the same influence as Steve Bannon or Stephen Miller did at one time among the people advising Trump.
