Matty's Comedy 1200- I gave it a shot

Monday--listened a good while, not bad
Tues/Wed- 10-15 min slots--still ok
Thurs- didnt get to it
Friday -- on the way home from work-- ummm. hmmmmm ... DONE

The problem is what to do with the 6th preset button - I don't speak spanish and don't like religion coming out of my speakers so my AM choices are pretty limited

My 6 AM Presets are: WRKO, WJIB, WCRN, WEEI ,WBZ and preset #6 (RIP WXKS AM)

It's decided-- I like Bob----- WJIB gets two presets!!

You've got one more AM preset than I can manage to justify here in central Connecticut. I have WFAN, WTIC, WPOP and WCBS -- and with Yankees (and ESPN Radio) on FM now I never punch the WCBS button anymore. Everything else on the AM dial here is right-wing talk, Spanish, religion, brokered ethnic or the sleepy throwback MOR of WQUN in Hamden.

1510? prob going all sports, NBC and some local soon. I switched my 1200 preset to this. For now they also have brokered Santos, Bro Stair may be overnight etc

Why are you done? Repetition? Quality of comedians? Audio quality?

Does or doesn't CCU own the syndicator that provides AM 1200's 24/7 comedy programming? I have read that CCU bought the syndicator and also that the company is still owned by another large station group (Cumulus?). Which is it? And if the owner is not CCU, who is it?

24/7 comedy com

radioinsight:
>> Donkey Comedy Network’s 247Comedy.com ownership was transferred to Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio Networks. Clear Channel appears ready to go all-in with the format as it has registered domains for Comedy branded stations on 19 frequencies in addition to 1200 for Boston.

The site for the service http://www.247comedy.com/main.html has a logo the same as 1200's
in that the D of comedy is positioned to look like a laughing mouth

I know there was a service called All Comedy Radio (voices included the daughter of Casey
Kasem) and it was running on an AM in Riverside CA etc. Apparently launched in '03,
with the Calif station switching in 2010. Maybe ACR is now "24/7 Comedy Network"

>>"We're delighted to work with Clear Channel to provide their Riverside cluster with a unique format option that cannot easily be duplicated," said DONKEY COMEDY NETWORK Director, Affiliate Sales DAVE VAN DYKE. "The 24/7 COMEDY RADIO answers CLEAR CHANNEL's need in RIVERSIDE for a foreground format that engages a cross-section of listener profiles and will generate several listening occasions per day."

OK, thanks! So if 24/7 Comedy, which is owned by CCU (indirectly, via Premiere) is paying WXKS (AM) to carry its feed and Fox Sports, which, AFAIK, is also owned by CCU, would pay pay WXKS (AM) to carry ITS feed, you can't say that FSR on WXKS (AM) would be more profitable for CCU than 24/7 Comedy. The money is simply flowing through CCU in a big circle.

BTW, even though one of Rupert Murdoch's companies owns the Fox name, my understanding is that Murdoch does NOT own FSR. Premiere does. And CCU owns Premiere. Premiere apparently licenses the Fox name from Murdoch.

You are so hung up with FSR's desirable demographics that you seem to have forgotten that this entire story is about one thing and one thing only--the money. Demographic, shmemographic. CCU will do as it has always done; it will maximize its profits.

Yes the name Fox Sports Radio is licensed. Wiki.: "The network is a service of Premiere Networks (a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications). Fox Sports itself has minimal control over the network; it is simply branded as such per a two-way marketing agreement with Fox Sports's parent company News Corporation. The network is operated from the Premiere Networks studios on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, California. Fox Sports personalities broadcast from studios across the country"

>>CCU will do as it has always done; it will maximize its profits.

That's true; I'm saying in general sports is desirable demo but yes they'll maximize their profits and comedy may be the way (another broad demo, etc.) They may figure Boston may have more than enough sports outlets so put comedy on instead (at least till people get tired of it? Or will people get tired of it at all?)
