Mavs move Ortegel to radio

Well 3 years after Cuban pushed Followill to TV he reunites him with his buddy Brad Davis and Ortegel is sent down to radio to work with Coop. You kinda knew it was coming, Followill and Davis just mesh better and I think Ortegel and Coop will be a good fit. It will just be wierd not to see and hear Ortegal doing TV after 19 years.

That will be strange, I agree. But you have to admit, it may make you listen to the on-air broadcast ala Brad and Babe.

Maybe I'm a homer, but I think THOR...er...uh... Coop is greatness.

I do like Coop too, but I prefer Followill much more......it's so ironic that while Coop was hosting a show on the Ticket, Followill was doing his tickers. And look at them now.

That's sad.

Bob Ortegal is one of THE best basketball analysts I've ever heard. Brad Davis is a nice guy but he just states the obvious too often.

Ortegal struck a nice balance between being a Mavs broadcaster without sugar-coating mistakes the Mavs made. Brad almost always avoids "tough love" as a commentator. Ortegal's honesty was not appreciated by Cuban. That's sad.

Dont jump the gun. Usually in the preseason, Bob does some radio when the game is not on TV. I doubt if Ortagel is going to radio.

I certainly hope Ortegal will keep doing the TV broadcasts. I really admire his knowledge of the game from the aspect of both the coaches and players. Wonder if Mark Cuban ever reads this borad???

I 100% agree.

Yeah.. but at halftime, they pretty much said Bob is on radio this year with coop. He'll be doing TV on pre/post-game only. He tried to make it sound ok, saying there was "a lot to learn" about the radio business and such, but I don't think he was too pleased.

And, I think its a shame. He was honest. And I respect that. Brad Davis takes the color out of "color commentary".

Droop, I agree. The only color Brad Davis adds is the same as he sported on the court, VANILLA.

Bob is great on TV, but his commentary is what makes him... TV or Radio, I will go where he goes. He's that good sports fans. Coop and Followill are nice, swap them out. But there are some things you just don't screw with.

Ask Eric Nadel. ;D

Ask Eric Nadel what? I liked the Rangers broadcasts better when he was doing color. I don't think he makes a very good play-by-play man. I miss hearing passion and vocal excitement that left with the passing of Mark Holtz.

He was great at doing color, but desperate means require desperate measures and Eric had to be bumped to play-by-play. Try moving him from it now and see what kind of outcry you get.

The "ask" was rhetorical. IJS. 8)

Yeah I was burning a candle as I saw that mustachioed vanilla color commentator on the tube this evening. Man, hate to sound like I am eulogizing but Orte' is going to be missed.

... looks like I am wrapping my stereo in foil because I am checking out Coop on radio. ;)

Unless Bob said something to critical about the organization, then this is something of a demotion. I wonder who thought this up. I thought Followill and Ortegel had great chemistry.

Looks like I'm in the minority here but I very much like the change. I always thought Bob was bad, he came off as trying to hard and very corney to me. Mark and Brad are much more smoother and I really prefer Brad over Bob and I don't see him as vanilla, he give a lot of good insight he's just not talking like you've never watched basketball before like Bob does.
