Mavs Parade

Has KRLD cut so many people that they can't do their own coverage of the Mavericks parade? Just heard "You're watching CBS-11 coverage of the Mavericks parade." Really?

Really... it's PARADE COVERAGE on the RADIO ... not the Kennedy assassination. You really think they should pay to have a whole bunch of talking heads down there describing what color Mark Cuban's shirt is? In this case, I'm fine with a simulcast.

It's more than "parade coverage". It's a community event, an exciting time. So many people posting on this board complain about how radio as an industry has lost its originality, its heart. Simulcasting TV isn't ok. It's lazy.

WBAP was there live doing its own broadcasts starting with morning drive. Mark Davis show broadcast from there as well. Jim Ryan, Elli Hogue and Allan Skyea and Steve Lamb all were there reporting throughout the day. Also they had airborn traffic at least through noon over Dallas.

BAP's live, dedicated broadcast was admirable, but I actually thought the KRLD simulcast gave a better feel for the event itself. Both were far more fun than being in the hot, sweaty crowd!

Did anyone catch what the "man on the street" interview guy said to Mark Davis? Something that started with "Russ Martin is a ---!" but either the signal cut out or the punchline got dumped.

(The above post is useless without audio... ;D )

Makes me wonder why CBS doesn't just go ahead and put the KRLD calls on Channel 11, to match some of their other TV/radio combos (e.g. WJZ/Baltimore) with the same calls.

Call letter have little value in TV these days....hence CBS 11, FOX 4, NBC 5. So switching to KRLD-TV means reprinting stationery, doing an s-load of paper work and other stuff that won't contribute a penny to the bottom line. They are known as CBS 11, KTVT or KRLD means nothing as a branding tool.

Of course those three stations are Network O and O's. Channel 8 rejected ABC's request to become "ABC 8" years ago.
