Max 98.3 - WWRZ

As I was looking over the ratings for the smaller markets around Tampa Bay, I noticed in the Lakeland book that Max 98.3 has pretty much fallen off the page. I mean they're not even getting a decent share in Lakeland!! Personally, I like the "Jack" approach they have and I listen at times in Tampa Bay just because I don't wanna support the big boys on Gandy and 4th Street. But I've heard some trainwreck segues and songs that the mainstream AC audience probably isn't caring too much for. It's got a decent signal into Tampa and with the construction permit (not sure which they're operating under) should be covering Lakeland quite well. I guess I'd just like to see one of the few little guys make something work. What should Hall do with this station? ....Of course WPCV is solid as always and is actually making some headway in Orlando.

I say hire a real morning show. One that will reach out and come in contact with the listener. Trim the music down a bit - you're right about some of the ??? Crap that's on.
Get involved with more events...be seen AND heard.
Maybe I'm just crazy.

I like the "Jack" format on Max, but listening to the station overall tells me it is very underfinanced and understaffed.

The imaging is terrible, the segues between songs and sweepers is loose and often a trainwreck, and the two jocks I've heard sound like they just ran a marathon before going on the air. It just doesn't sound like Hall is really putting much effort in the sound of the station.

Then again, with alot of hot ac and classic rock stations evolving into classic hits in both Tampa and Orlando, I'm not sure the once-unique "Jack" format can last long in Lakeland unless it bills well.

The key to making this format work is real human air talents who can provide compelling content between the records.

This is what CBS is doing with Sunny 105.9 in Orlando. I expect they will do quite well.

First, "Max" had signal problems in Lakeland and beyond. Sounds like that has been fixed with the new tower, especially if they have a good signal in Tampa. Second, having listened to them on the Net a fair bit, I agree with the suggestion, they need more personalities and a bit of promotion in Lakeland and surrounds would be good. Their parent company already knows how to do these things, since sister station WPCV is "live and local." Sounds to me like it's a budget issue.

I have been listening this weekend - since it was mentioned on this board. To tell you the truth, I actually like the station the way it is. IMO it is Ipod-like in its approach. I usually like live and local but Max works for me. Who da thought?

I just got my 500 gig implant chip today. It came with my choice of music and I got 3000 songs free with a year's subscription at 100 bucks to download unlimited songs! Free at last. I never have to listen to corporate cheese again! The future brings so many great alternatives to being mind-fed without choice. A-MAZING!
