MAX finally did it

They split the 99.5 signal off into it's own separate format. "Maximum Country 99.5....where the legends live."

Hopefully they took all the Brown County sports and Dial and Deal programs with them. They'll do a great job of super-serving that Brown and Highland County audience on 99.5 but it just sounded out of place on the WOXY frequency.

I don't know when they did this. I'm assuming today (December 21st). The website has not been updated yet, however.

How many more country stations do we need?<<

Answer: at least two, maybe three total. One alone won't get the tune-in and tune-out that builds cume.

More than one of anything will increase both stations numbers. Theoretically.

Wasn't that their format before they became part of the Max empire? I know they once played bluegrass on Sunday afternoons as WAOL, Ripley,OH.

Yep, they were Classic Country prior to being flipped to Max. Sounds like a lot of the local Brown County programming has crept back in (probably brings in more money than trying to compete in Cincy as a distant rimshot).

Yeah they went and made a liar outta me. Today, they were separate streams but still both IDed themselves as MAX FM, with the 99.5 frequency mixing in more country. Maybe Monday night was just a test run?

I hear them trying new things, with new people, and I want them to make it even if some of the stuff is not my cup of tea. Super serving the Brown County audience is probably smart, since the signal issues and competition make it next to impossible to make a dent in the Cincy metro. Focus on where you are, give the rural audience what it wants, and ya might just prosper. That seems to be the approach for 99.5

Not sure what the future holds for 97.7 though.

I like the Variety Hits format....that's why I still tune them in from time to time. However, I love a musical train wreck. That's why any station that had me in charge of programming their music would go toes up in a year. :) You're better off with me writing copy and selling the tunes on air. A wise squinty-eyed Californian once said "a man's got to know his limitations."

WAXZ and WAOL had it's own respectable niche for "community radio" in Brown County before First Broadcasting came along with its grand plan for MAX-FM, which in hindsight is an abject failure. When they threw in the WOXY signal to the mix (Which seriously, $5.4 million for a 3,000 watt stick? I'd KILL to know who authorized such a high price for that when the price for WAOL AND WAXZ combined didn't go for that much. The Baloghs made off like bandits in that sale.) they thought they had gold.

First got stuck with three sub-par signals which I don't think they did proper research on. All they saw was three pea-shooters and figured they could make some money on and sell, and that hasn't happened yet.

Anyways. If the 99.5 signal is getting somewhat back to its roots, more people will buy in. Heck, the majority of spots are for businesses in Brown County already.

Better yet, how many more stations do we need playing 'burned out favorites from the 80's'? I'm sorry, but I'm sick and tired of hearing John Cougar Mellonhead, Eric Clapton and others that I hear all over the FM dial (when did "Hurts So Good" become a 'Family Friendly' Warm 98 tune?). Don't get me wrong, I don't think we need any more country stations either (except maybe in Brown County). First should have just hired Baker, Taylor, Miller, Shiv and Co. and let them continue what they were doing for the original WOXY. What a shame we lost one of the most uniquely programed stations in the nation. And I know that whole "research will tell you" bull. Most "average" people/listeners will agree with me. They're getting tired of it too.

Had a chance to listen to 99.5 for a couple of hours today, and ... whoa. Musical format was as follows: Play a country song, follow it with a MAX song. Repeat. It was train-wreck segue radio at its worst.

My suggestion: Go full-bore with the country on 99.5, and have MAX strictly on 97.7.

Red, I still think that's what they're gonna do. That stuff I heard on a Monday night a couple of weeks ago was too put together to not be the future. Had imaging done and everything.

RRontheX, if you're who I think you are, whaddup brotha??
