Max McGann? Randy Bliss? Jack Armstrong?

What the heck has happened to Jack Armstrong, Max McGann and some of the other long time announcers at Oldies 93?

I read where "The Wolf" is accepting T&R - attention Randy Bliss PD, so I've somewhat answered my own question. But has anyone heard about the rest of the announcing staff?

By the way, I liked Oldies 93 - didn't always listen to it, but it was enjoyable when I did. "The Wolf" is way to much like WTQR, and I give it at least six months before you see a new format change. Remember how 98.7 went through that revolving door format wheel for quite awhile, and now they have settled on "98-7 Simon" (which is now what I listen to 90% of the time).

Anyway - anybody got the straight dope on Oldies 93's long-time announcers?

Jack Armstrong has been gone from WMQX for over 2 years now.

Quoting radiochickgso "By the way, I liked Oldies 93 - didn't always listen to it, but it was enjoyable when I did." Didn't listen - that's the problem! Lots of people liked the station, thought it was well done, entertaining, and all that - but if you don't listen to it every week - don't be surprised when it goes away.

I can't tell you how many people who will claim to be fans of that (or any other) station won't miss it for six months or more!

As for the announcers who are still there (not Jack Armstrong) - they are still on the payroll and according to the article in the WS Journal yesterday, will have the opportunity to apply to the new station. A bit more of a class move than you usually get with these deals.

You're right XTalker about the announcers having the opps to apply with the new station - I think that's really cool, so props go to the management. That really does show some class.

As far as not listening every week to Oldies 93, that I didn't do. When I did listen it was fine, and it was usually when Randall C. Bliss was on the air in the afternoons. But I worked in plenty of stations, mostly AM's, that played those same songs to death, and that's why I could only take it in spells.

Now I'm a little older and find that my dial flips between 98-7 Simon and FMTalk 101.1 (except when Savage is on - I'd rather listen to dead air).

I had no clue about Jack Armstrong obviously. Is he anywhere in this market or has he moved on to another pasture?

I think Armstrong does a show in Buffalo, remotely from his home (where that is, I don't know).

Jackson was voicetracking a show on WWKB AM 1520 in Buffalo since January, 2003 until February 2006. In early February, 2006 the station flipped formats, without warning, to a talk format. I've always been a big fan of Jackson's since I first heard him on WPOP in Hartford, CT in 1969, so I hope he'll find a new radio home eventually.
