maxwell is offically fired

according to my sources, Maxwell was offically fired late last night. This is 100 percent true.

Believe it or not, Becker5 appears to be right. Though he did NOT predict "the end of August".

Our very own Secondary Editorial Voice(tm), R-I's own Nathan Obral, posted this last night on his Twitter account.

This morning, PD/midday host Bill Louis is on WNCX playing classic rock music with no reference to Maxwell and his show, live, recorded or otherwise. The MWL Show section on WNCX.com is still in full force, but I'll have to assume that's only until the web folks get to work this morning.

Again, no surprise, considering another high-profile show in the same building (92.3 The Fan's "Kiley and Booms") starts Monday morning.

I'm assuming that they bought out MWL's contract, which reportedly ends in October.

OMW: The Internet has been unofficially firing people since 1987.(And that is not meant to be a slight to you, by the way.)

I understand that sometimes, there can be spelling errors, but based on what I've gathered on this forum, perhaps, Becker, you can say Maxwell was "offecally fired." :-X

And what's the vibe on this page at this hour? (No access of FB in my current position.)

Becker, do you know what happened that led up to the firing. I think it was bad ratings, bad blood with management & the arrival of The Fan.

"Bad blood" might have equated the tapes. But it also could have equaled the micro-managing of Max's show by WNCX management since day one - playing music in-between the segments, losing the naming rights to many old WMMS segments after awkwardly trying to revived them, etc. But that's usually a private matter unless WNCX or Max eventually want to disclose that (see the reasoning argued in the "Curious Case" thread). That's usually why the phrase "different direction" was invented.

I also think Max didn't want to do the show after the 92.3 stunt AND probably was ticked off after "The Fan" totally bypassed his crew for a FIVE PERSON morning show (along with Kevin and Chuck, who surely didn't come cheap in any way).

That, and there are two months to go on their contract, and CBS was probably happy to buy them out and whip up a lower-profile morning show that can protect "Kiley and Booms" in some way - something that Max couldn't do.

Sorry for Maxwell personally. At least he got bought out....hopefully he'll get another decent gig.

Otherwise, as a listener: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

The show was awful in the mornings, but actually sounded good during their afternoon cameo at radio923. Max and Stansbury have good chemistry, very natural and always get some laughs out of me. Maxwell has his annoying moments, but still a shame because it was destined to fail from the start. Can't imagine anywhere else in Cleveland that he would get a shot. Honestly it'd be interesting to hear him on WMMS again in place of Sixxth Sense...but I gotta believe that bridge is completely torched, not to mention the huge blow to Maxwell's ego that would be.

The word you're looking for is "napalmed".

Having left both major players in the market for his kind of show, CBS Radio and Clear Channel, one would suspect that Maxwell is out of chances in Cleveland.

I think we all just need to say good-bye to Maxwell once and for all. I never seen so many excuses why a last place show sucked. Mornings or afternoons, they sucked! They only did well when Maxwell did drugs, had good imaging, and a did few radio hack gags. Besides that, the show was never good. Just say good-bye and enjoy the classic rock.

What the deal with Michael Stanley? Is he sick?

his ratings went way up after he got sober actually, regardless, he was always the funniest shw on the air, drugs, no drugs, mornings "bordingks) or afternoons.

Guess I'll just have to keep my ear to the ground and see where they turn as Dan isn't returning any of my messages thus far

Maybe Dan Stansbury resurfaces at WMMS.

They clearly made tons of attempts to keep him - after all, he WAS their music director - and he departed on good terms IIRC, out of loyalty to Maxwell. And I doubt Dan would want to sacrifice yet another year off the air - give or take if CBS retained a non-compete with their outright buyout of Maxwell.

For all intents and purposes, a non-compete is beyond the point in this market. Even if V-107.3 WANTED to take a chance and recruit the trio, ELB never had nor will have the money. Nor is WKNR that desperate (provide all three wanted to kiss the Goldhammer clans' brass ring). And what rock stations do Salem and Radio One operate?

Dan might have another chance, but Maxwell and Chunk, for all intents and purposes, are done in Cleveland radio for good.

Private issue. He isn't sick in any way, but will be off the air for an extended period of time until the issue is resolved. And that is pretty much that.

The only issue for WNCX is that this will stretch their talent pool pretty thin, unless they can somehow, someway miraculously recruit Scott Miller and/or Jeff Blanchard back.

What about that new progressive talk station on 1460? Hey, if Mancow can become a right-wing host... ::)

The smart bet would be on a music-intensive morning drive show hosted by one of the existing WNCX'ers (not Bill, who will stay in middays)...for now.
