Good Boringk!

Any news on Max? I heard he was talking with cbs, then talking again with wmms. Cant wait til he comes back!

If he's "coming back", the rumors haven't reached the point where anyone's talking to the Mighty Blog(tm) about it.

Though we get asked about once every couple of months or so...

It's actually starting to look like he won't be back even though both companies (CC+CBS) were rumored to be in talks with Maxwell. This was when both rumored stations (WMMS and WNCX) were taking a PPM hit. Well, now things are looking better.
Alan Cox is getting alot of push from WMMS. Even more-so than Maxwell did. Why would this be happening if they were just going to release him.
As for WNCX, the Morning show, as well as the station itself, is doing great in PPM now.

I'm assuming that Max won't be coming back to Cleveland radio.

The fact Maxwell was able to get great ratings in spite of a lack of publicity was a testament to the show itself.

Last I checked, after WMMS had a series of billboards featuring Rover and Maxwell back in April 2008, Maxwell's show had NO outside visible promotion, no TV ads, no outdoor festivals, no 12-month calendars, no external website/social media haven under Max's actual control, etc. In fact, the only outside promotion Max EVER got since then was the infamous Metallica stunt (which he purposefully did to protest the lack of attention the show got). And even after all that... Maxwell STILL traded spots with Triv for #1 in key demos.

Yes, WMMS is smart to promote Cox. It would have been insane for WMMS NOT to do so... especially with the station's main attraction (outside of Rover), which is the Browns games. Cox needs the promotion to rebuild the listening base for the show, and he will get a ratings bump out of it. But again, it's a totally new audience to replace the old Maxwell audience. The station took an audience, blew it up, and started from square one. While I will never listen to Cox, I would have had an even bigger problem with WMMS had Cox been thrown out before the year-long grace period ended.

As for CBS, again, that cluster has been in virtual limbo for nearly two years. We know that CBS doesn't want to be here anymore, but the market's far too miserable to sell those four stations, and I can't think of a logical buyer for them. Then there's the possibility that even IF WNCX wanted to take a chance with him in mornings, top brass in NY could have said no.

If Maxwell never resurfaces in Cleveland, that's the fault of the market itself.

Well said Nathan and unpwn both.

You can probably rule out 92.3 as well. No sense in hurting NCX's AM numbers nor drifting away from the music intensive focus, right?

At this point, just hoping Max ends up SOMEWHERE...somewehere that streams so we can listen again. ;D

I never factored in 92.3 to begin with. CBS turned it into a personality-free station simply because it was cheaper to do than run the 15th incarnation of K-Rock. Plus 92.3's signal is by far inferior in comparison to WNCX, WDOK and Q104. (I think that's why Max joked about being the future morning host on 92.3... he knew that would NEVER happen.)

Of course, the station's had their highest ratings in years... I'm not sure if CBS expected THAT result.

Nate, your silly boycott of the Cox Show, despite its quality and numbers to prove it, is just that, silly. Stop with the vendettas. Yes, its a totally different show and since you are/were such a loyal Maxwell Soldier, you may not like a show like Cox's, I dont know. But the show was interesting from the start and keeps getting better each day. Boycott if you like, but its you who is missing out on something cool.

We'll see when CC cancels the show in two years after contract negotiations between Cox and WMMS fall through, and Rover's minions go on air to insult and demean Cox's fan base.

I have no reason to listen to WMMS at all anymore. Rover's tired, boring old shtick and meathead sidekicks (that only rival Tony Rizzo's sidekicks in stupidity) is an automatic turnoff. After that, what else is there beyond a 200-song head-bashing rock rotation (ugh) and premium-choice DJs*? If you consider that a "silly little boycott against Cox" because I don't care to listen to WMMS as a station, then good for you. I can say without consequence that I'm not missing a darn thing.

*Exclusion given to the Atlanta-based Big Rig, who is the best remaining DJ that they have left.

WNCX has just announced Maxwell takes over morning drive there starting 11/1.

The release says his cast members (Stansbury and Chunk) will both also be aboard.

Yuck! But it should make for some interesting radio wars with WMMS, if you are into that type of thing. It seems that Rover and his group of "meatheads" are into that sort of thing. Im Ben Bornstein is, too.

If you can stand to listen to either show, you might get some good warfare. Im not sure I can.... *lol*

WOW, I see Scott and Jeff of the WNCX morning show has already left the building as of this morning!!!

I've been asked about three times already "what happened to Scott and Jeff", and haven't heard officially yet...but it does indeed look like they are gone. The station promotion material made no mention of them at all.

With Jen Toohey moving to AM drive on Q104 the same day, I wonder what else CBS Radio has under its hat for Monday!

It's certainly not coincidental that the show gets its WNCX intro on the PM drive show. Since they can't hijack their old station in afternoon drive...

AllAccess confirmed last night the obvious: Scott Miller is out. Nice guy, and I'm not just saying that because he's been an OMW reader...

Shockingly, Dave Jockers was also released in the transition. I say shockingly because he was the board-op for every single morning show on WNCX since Stern's fall 1992 debut - and had been the station's APD since 1996.

As for the big relaunch on Monday, Maxwell didn't hold back one bit. Needless to say, the relationship between WMMS management and Maxwell became so toxic that any rumor of a return to 100.7 never had any merit whatsoever. WNCX already posted portions of the program up on their website, and it's a must-listen.

Bridges were definitely burned, all right - only with napalm as an accelerator.
