The May Arbitrends are out for the Buffalo market. You can find the detailed numbers elsewhere including the ratings area on this site, or on AllAccess.com...but a couple points are worth making. First, the seesaw battle for the top finished with WYRK edging out WBEN for the first time in a while. Wonder if some of the recent changes (including dumping Ron Dobson for the cheaper-to-run Laura Ingraham, who hasn't performed well nationally and got dumped herself recently in New York) are starting to hurt WBEN?
Also, Kiss 98.5 has surged over the last month to leap past WBLK into third place 12+. Demo breakdowns for the market haven't leaked out yet. But since both stations cater primarily to the 12-34 crowd, can we assume from this showing that Kiss is winning the battle for young listeners? CHR stations usually do well in warm weather when teen listeners are out of school but this jump's a little early in the year to be just an artifact of school being out. Regent's in no position right now to spend money it doesn't have on rebuilding a local morning show, but could this be a sign that going syndicated in a vital daypart like morning drive, which they did a couple years ago IIRC, is finally starting to hurt BLK? (Next door in Rochester WDKX, which has stayed local wall-to-wall, is cementing its 12-34 dominance.)
