May Have A Backer...

Hello Everyone, I may have a backer for 94.3 FM. It looks like God may allow me to bring this translator back, after all.

Although I am fishing for K-Love, I have this bad feeling that WLKO from Meridian may be a bit too far away for me to rebroadcast.

Since I have that feeling, I am now fishing for WPCS from Pensacola. I am still going to fish for K-Love and hope they are the ones to help me.

If WPCS be the backer, then I will learn to adjust to their music and programming.

I did contact WPCS recently and I am still waiting to hear from them.

Yes, I have contacted WLBF and they seemed interested in helping me. I am going to fish for them, if WPCS and/or K-Love doesn't work out.

RDP <><

P.S. I want to use this station to help win my community over to Jesus. Even if the programming isn't of my liking, I will still support whatever I end up rebroadcasting over this translator, if this dream works out for me. Finally, I am taking a poll here in Selma, to see what the people want me to do with 94.3. It looks like that I may be fishing for WPCS after all, since my internal polling is leaning in that direction. I will keep you posted and let you know what does happen.

Keep in mind that you can only rebroadcast a signal you can take from "off the air".If your translator was on a non commercial frequency you could take a satellite signal from any non commercial source but on a commercial frequency you have your limitations. If you translate from a non commercial station and they are temporarily off the air there is a means for you to take the feed from a satellite for the temporary period. Finally, I would ask if this is a translator that you or someone you know aquired during the previous filing window or are you purchasing it or is it being gifted?

RDP,
I moved this post up (and added to it), so hopefully you'll see that you got another response.

It didn't dawn on me when you first posted, but I found out from Radio-Locator.com that WPCS is operated by Pensacola Christian College. I hope you'll back out while you have a chance. They're KJV Only and VERY anti-CCM.

I hope you won't give up on a CCM network yet, and even if you might have to go with a traditional station to get on the air, that it will be someone who isn't KJV Only or anti-CCM, like WPCS or BBN are. (I don't know if BBN is KJVO, but I do know thay're ultra-traditional.)

It sounds like to me that if you go by what your poll (which may not be totally reliable if pro-WPCS people are pushing for a lot of responses to it) is saying and go with WPCS, you'd be adding another traditional station (one even more traditional than the others), and the youth of the area will still be without a Christian station for them, which was your original goal, and one I hope you won't give up on yet.

I know that you talked at one time about possibly dealing with D. James Kennedy or R.C. Sproul. They may be traditional, but they would be better than anything connected to PCC.

Please reconsider this. I think it would be a big mistake to go with WPCS.

To answer that question, this translator has been licensed since 1992. I am still trying to get it.

Re: May Have A Backer...(More Info)

For those wondering, here is where I stand with this translator:

WAY FM--Didn't Work Out
AFR--Already have a station here
WDJC--Not Interested
WLBF--Not Interested
K-Love--Not Interested
WPCS--No Response Yet
BBN--Didn't Work Out
Immanuel Broadcasting--Won't mess with them, since they carry some WOF Preachers. Their nearest station, is at least 50 miles north and east of Birmingham. This one looks like its too far away.
Powe 88 from Mobile--Too Far Away
WIZB from Dothan--Too Far Away

I am now going to fish for WGIB 91.9 from Birmingham. They carry some of the programs that I like. I will get to hear Dr. James Kennedy, R.C. Sproul and John MacArthur, at least once a day on this station.

This station carries those Preachers and Teachers that are the most faithful to the Word of God. That is what I discovered while reading their program guide.

They may cater to mostly talk and Preaching but I am going to check with them and see if they would like to help me.

As you can tell, I have been contacting many radio stations and so far, no one has been able to help. If I can get WGIB from B-Ham to help, that would be awesome.

For those wondering, I know all the rules about a translator. All I can still do, is bring attention to this station and tell my audience where they can send a love gift, if they want to help keep it going. I am still not allowed to do any local programming of any kind. I also know, that I would have to relocate, if I were to increase my power. This is because I would cause interference with WQZY in Greenville, which is not far from my hometown.

The nearest CCM feed is in Troy and the nearest Gospel feed is south of Meridian, in Waynesboro. Since we already have AFR in the Selma area, they didn't see a need to bring yet another AFR type station to my area. That is what Mr. Marvin Sanders told me, when I contacted them about helping me get 94.3 and bringing it back.

RDP <><

P.S. If I am able to get 94.3 back on, I am going to Preach the truth, with no sugarcoating and let the chips fall where they may. We have way too much heresy in the Church, I am sick and tired of it. Give me some meat and potatoes and I will be a happy camper.

Re: May Have A Backer...(More Info)

RDP,
I agree with you about staying away from Word of Faith programs, but I thnk you should stay away from anything connected to KJV Onlyism or conspiracy theorists as well. I've looked at WGIB's schedule and most of what they have seems to be Biblically solid, except for Southwest Radio Church, who is both KJVO and conspiracy oriented, and possibly Lester Roloff (Family Altar program), who might have leaned toward KJV Onlyism.

After looking at the website for the church that owns WGIB, I get the impression that they're very traditional, although I didn't see anything pushing KJV Onlyism. This might be a better choice than WPCS, although I still hope you won't give up on getting a CCM network. I'll just say keep trusting God to lead you.

Also, what has happened about the posibility changing the translator's frequency from 94.3 to something in the non-commercial band?

It didn't work out. At this time, if I am able to get 94.3, I will have to keep it there and remain a translator, from what was told to me by some reliable sources. (Including Sterling Communications: James E. Price) The current owner even made reference to that, as I was discussing my plans with him about my intentions for this station if I were able to get it.

RDP <><

P.S. I can only do so much with this station, if I am able obtain it. With all the homework and studying I have been doing, I will let God have His way and lead me to the backer(s) that will be able to help me.

Re: May Have A Backer...(More Info)

You actually think people are just going to hand over a translator to you or give you the cash to buy it? There's no reason for backers to join you.

If you are translating WGIB, AFR, CSN or whatever at will they are not required to pay you and they won't. Your tower rental could run anywhere between $500 and $2000 month depending on several factors.

nevermind the cost of a new EAS at almost $1500, and a new transmitter should your old one die out which could run $5000+ depending on what you get. I know it's a translator, but you will need audio processing, etc too and the cost of engineering/frequnecy studies.

People won't just hand stuff over to you RDP, you don't get anything for free in this day and age.

We've tried to discourage him (that sounds harsh...how about "introduce a little reality"), but he keeps coming back.

I'm not sure what that means.

Anyway, I find it interesting that he now lists all the programming producers that have said "no" to what "appears" to be a free offer. All of those organizations have decided there's no value in doing anything with it (which is amazing), the current owner has decided there's nothing of value to do with it, and none of the usual hawks have swooped in to grab it.

I'm right there with all those who would say God can do anything He wants, but, now knowing that all these formats get in there anyway and others have no interest in going, this situation looks extraordinarily clear to me. Now, we'll just have to see if RDP gets it before he winds up in court, out a small fortune, and/or in bankruptcy.

Thanks to everyone that has been of help to me. I am now going to see if the current owner ends up finding a buyer on his own. I wanted to help him get one but that didn't work out.

Thanks for your prayers, help and sometimes harsh words. I needed them, as I was chasing after something I thought God wanted me to get.

Re: May Have A Backer...(A New Chapter)

The current owner may soon have a buyer. K-Love is one again checking to see if they will be able to rebroadcast WLKO from Meridian Mississippi, over this translator. Just got a call from Mr. Jeff Wall and he is doing some checking for me. If Mr. Jeff Wall and company are able to get this translator back on, then that would be awesome and my wish for a real CCMer will finally have a home in my hometown.

Glad I didn't end up doing business with WPCS and BBN after all. Those two stations would have not done too well here in Selma.

I am looking foward to hearing K-Love, if they are able to start up a station here.

RDP <><

P.S. I am a firm believer that God works in mysterious ways. Although I was ready to throw in the towel, Mr. Jeff Wall of K-Love just got things up and running again.

"I am still going to fish for K-Love and hope they are the ones to help me. "

Please read my lips, Klove might lease your translator but they aren't going to "help" you. What does that mean "help you"?
You really don't have a clue about Christian radio, do you? They will gulp up your signal doing what they want to do but there aren't many stations that will so call "help" you. It is a shame that we have come that far but that's the way it is. Business is business as all stations say/ Christian or other.
You have to have a signal to broadcast from and the fact that no one wants this translator when every frequency is gobbled up in most areas and worth gold, makes a statement about it's listening worth. If Klove thought it was beneficial to them, it would fly out of your hands into theirs so there evidentially is a problem rebroadcasting on it or having a viable signal with the ability to have a large listening audience.
You can NOT put programming on a translator, it is to rebroadcast another station. We have talked about this forever it seems :).
With your faith though, who knows how it will all work out, we are faithless and finding fault but you have enormous faith - prove us all wrong.(please use wisdom and watch your back while you prove it).

Thanks for those words. I intend to follow them out.

I do know that God works in mysterious ways. He also asks us to pray for wisdom. I don't get this whole thing - are you paying for Klove to have a free signal?

If things work out, I intend to help raise money needed to get a rebroadcast of their WLKO station from Meridian started.

Not only am I Praying for this dream to happen, I am going to work really hard to see it through. I will be raising some of the money needed to get this station going, if it works out.

I am not going to expect K-Love to spend all their money on this translator alone. I am going to help them get it.

No...if it were yours, they should be paying you to be on it. However, they've already indicated they're not interested. What's the point?

They've probably spent more on staff lunch meetings! They've been cutting seven-figure checks for stations all over the place -- money's not the issue! If they wanted it, they'd already have it!

They have spoken with both their words and their (lack of) actions.
