May I Rant?

I realize that I'm on the outside looking in (but have been on the "inside" for years, in the past) but things change, I know.

What was the strategy or logic to have Michael Medved take over co-host the 8 AM hour with David Boze? Boze has always been a light-weight as a talk host and is suited to be just a producer. His entire program is him just "bitching"....and he honestly sounds like he lives in the 1950s (yes, I know, he went to Hillsdale College which hasn't moved forward in the last 50 years). But why have Medved come in and bail him out? Can he not hold his own for 4 hours? I would have to say yes. And it's just humorous when I hear the promo, "Want more of me, Michael Medved? Listen at 8 AM...." Doesn't even mention Boze.

Medved has one of the biggest egos in this market, but he tries his best to keep it under wraps. But I always cringe when he starts talking about baseball....ARGH! And when he brings in his wife, DOCTOR Diane Medved, who cowers in his shadow. Speaking of Medved talking baseball, does anyone remember when Mike Seigel--after running out of radio stations to be on---was on KJR AM for a short time, talking sports? OMG. It was painful. I remember that something happened off-air and he was gone shortly afterward.

Someone mentioned in Sinclair would re-name the HQ has "Sinclair Plaza." Probably just joking, but I would be shocked if they did that. Would they also rename "Fisher House?" (or is that Fischer House?") I mean, the Fishers were a big factor-family in Seattle...

OK, I'm done. Discuss. :)

Personally, I think we've hit peak corporate naming. I really miss the days when we named buildings and sports fields after departed local people of substance. Forget "Sinclair Plaza", "Kathi Goertzen Plaza" sounds MUCH better. "Dave Niehaus Field" over "Safeco Field"? Bring it on. The corporations will survive.

And speaking of Kathi, tomorrow is 1 year to the day of her death from brain tumors and cancer. RIP. :'(

Not a bad idea. However, you reminded me of something else...

What and when in the world will KING 5 do with Jean Enerson? Painful.

I have a feeling Jean Enersen is staying and will only leave when she's ready. She's too popular. And she's been good for KING. I really don't think Gannett wants a massive local public relations disaster after they take over. They'll never live it down if they did.

I think Jean still "brings it", and can probably retire on her terms. Even if they eventually take her off the daily newscasts, she will likely still be a part of KING with specials. Her history, as the longest running female co-anchor in the entire country, has a lot of equity. Jean has nothing to worry about. She has already cemented herself into the most known and acclaimed newscaster ever in the Seattle market, and she calls the shots, despite the Gannett changeover. Gannett may be new to the market, but they are not stupid.

She's 69 - in 2029 she'll be 85 years old. She could probably keep ticking on KING 5 News with Dennis Bounds in 2029, I wouldn't be surprised. Jean is a LEGEND in Seattle and no one, EVER, will be more known in Seattle on channel 5 than Jean.

She's outlasted two station ownerships and countless co-anchors. She'll be around a while. And more power to her......

A pretty snarky and rude post, imo, from CorporateSuit. Have you SEEN Jean lately on 5? She doesn't look 69, she looks maybe 10 years younger than that!

Guys, I hate to break this to you, but she's OLD. Time to move on.

@Corp, you must not be a Seattle native. I have the same reaction to some of the "senior" anchors here in Phoenix. However, Phoenix natives always correct me with the "but s/he's a LEGEND". The same holds true for Jean Enersen. She is a true legend and she shows it every night. News shouldn't be about beauty; it's about trustworthy, solid journalists bringing you the news each night.

That said, there's a 1979 KING 5 newscast on youtube and Jean was gorgeous back in the day.

Kudos to homegirl for what she has accomplished in the industry! She's like the cockroach if you will of newscasters. She survives and out lasts anything! I just hope she has curtailed her 5 finger discounts around town. - hey for 69 she's rocking it.

@formeraa - She's not a journalist, none of them are. They are -- as the British rightly put it -- "news readers." They read the news to you. That's it. Wasn't she accused of stealing clothes from Nordstrom?

With HER salary? I doubt it......

If Jean Enersen, with 45 years experience anchoring the news and conducting interviews, isn't a "journalist" then I question what your definition of journalist is. What more does she have to do to prove it?

Agreed totally. Jean has interviewed Presidents, frequently traveled abroad to report, and has done many investigative reports, especially in the health field. To those who don't understand this, don't understand Jean.

As I stated earlier, Gannett is not dumb. Any change in Jean's status at KING would be a disaster for KING-TV. It would all be blamed on Gannett, obviously. Even if she decided to retire on her own, some would still blame it on Gannett. This is a lose-lose proposition for Gannett. But I think they already know that. Gannett should be encouraging her to stay on, even giving her Johnny Carson-like benefits, whatever it costs. This is how important Jean is to the Seattle news scene.

Getting back to radio.... Does anyone know where Mike Brown is working these days? Is he still a member of the Seahawks radio team? Or is he working directly for the Seahawks as a blogger?
