Can you post top 20 12+

Hmm, how about the real PPM 6+ numbers there? :p

Looks like KUBE continues to slip into a state of STALE!! Summer Jam certainly won’t help either as the constant promo for it will kill TSL. KISS is looking strong in the fact that it’s holding steady; ironically KJR-FM continues to be CC-Seattle’s “Strong FM” signal as far as PPM.
Sandusky is looking good with Warm! CBS is sitting pretty with KMPS and the barebones minimum KJAQ
Ahh, Fun stuff folks!

I see the FM flip at KIRO was a real smart business decision. From #1 on AM to #20 on FM in a 6 month period. Somehow I think we'll see the News-Talk format back on 710 real soon.

Re: So where's Mamma & TIFM?

"mammaknowsbest" and "TakeItFromMe" are likely having fitz over these numbers. So much for Movin' & The Wolf "beating" the established stations.

Yourrrr kidding right. There was a sisterhood party at MOVIN after the May PPM which was ya ya goody good. First of all mamma said change was a comin with WOLF, JACK and MOVIN. JACK is still kicking a**. WOLF is top three in the good female demos like 25-54 and 25-44. Oh yeah and let's look at why the sisters are partying in Bellevue. MOVIN is now tied with KISS for number 2 25-54 ladies at night and top ten overall. Say ya ya!!! in the prime 25-44 MOVIN is number 4 just behind STAR, KISS and WOLF and at night is NUMBER ONE BY A MILE. Seems to this girl that MOVIN has killed KUBE and KMPS and a bunch of the "established" stations and is now edging ahead of KISS at night. Seems to me that Doormat and MOVIN rule the nights in Seattle in just about any demo and are doing pretty well thankyou very much. Plus MOVIN is on the rise with KISS slippin a bit. you might want to look at the numbers one more time to find out that mamma really DOES KNOW BEST!!! Guess you are looking too much at the 6+ numbers which really mean NOTHING!!!!

Let's cut to the chase cowboys. Here is what radio geeks on this board can't stand with the PPM:

STAR 101.5 is a damn powerhouse and Kent and Alan pretty much own mornings. Damn hard to believe, you bet it is :-X
JACK is the second ole powerhouse in the market and it ain't got jocks. That chaps everyone's hide :-X
KIRO AM and FM are not even top twenty. Hell they don't even count anymore, nor does any newstalk station cept KUOW :-[
THE WOLF is the top Country station and is third in morning drive :-[
KJR-FM is the powerhouse for men, while KPLZ is the powerhouse for women.
T-MAN has disappeared into the bottom of the ratings while KBKS WOLF and MOVIN shoot to the top 18-34 :-X
Rivers and BJ Shea are beaten by KJR-FM and KJAQ in male numbers, beaten by automation :-[
The final thing every one can't stand: IT DOESN"T APPEAR TO BE CHANGING as the weeks continue to roll by

That pretty much cover it.

Various things heard around radio stations after latest PPM results:

KIRO - "I've fallen...AND I CAN'T GET UP!!"

KUBE - "Gangstas gonna bust a cap in yo ass BEEYATCH!!"

KWJZ - Nothing, just another saxophone solo.....

KQMV - "Mamma, what are these bottles of champagne here for? Do you need glasses?....No, there's styrofoam cups in the lounge, I meant EYEGLASSES...."

KPLZ - "WHOOOOOO-HOOOOOOO!!!! Suck it everyone, WE RULE!!"

KMPS - Nothing. They were measuring the wall for ANOTHER competitor PD's head to mount on it

KKWF - "YOU SEE THESE NUMBERS FITZ? This is NOT our idea of WORLD DOMINATION......."

KVI - "Is there anybody out there?.....ANYBODY?"

That's going to be REAL hard.....having to publicly admit the decision to go news/talk on FM was all wrong (this is Seattle. Only KUOW can get away with that here.) But the question is, will listeners come BACK to AM? Will there be a similar promotion blitz in REVERSE? Have listeners been so spoilt by the clean, crystal clear sound of every creak of Dave Ross's chair that they simply just CAN'T go back?....

KIRO's got a REAL mess on their hands. The switch of KIRO to FM again has to be one of the BIGGEST blunders in Seattle radio history. Well, they didn't learn the first time in the '90s and I have a nagging feeling this won't be the LAST....

And they did it just as KBSG was really starting to sound good too. They can't even get the KBSG call letters back........

"KJR-FM is the powerhouse for men"

I guess but I always thought of them as a pretty femme classic station, at least compared to my rock tastes.

KMTT really does needs re-casting / energizing.

Jack does show most of the yakking is over-rated. Same format, better / harder music mix could do even better.

KWJZ could be better if they kicked out the walls the right way. Instrumental heavy pieces from rock and elsewhere, not soul ballads. At least that would be a good mix for me. Take advantage of the Mountain's malaise and possible shift.

I submit you wouldn't know a radio blunder if it hit you on the head.

I'm sure that Bonneville knew there was going to be a transition period where ratings would be down with their eye on a slow rise back into the race.

The fact that they made the change in the middle of a recession makes a lot of sense. The Mormon owners have sizable cash reserves, perfect to keep things going while the economy is in the tank. Rather than making such a big strategic move for the future when the economy is good, why not work on the rebuilding so the product will be ready when times are better? Just as the traditional oldie listener; KBSG wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway.

Bonneville has seen success in Washington DC and other markets with the move to FM. Moving KIRO to FM will eventually prove to be a smart move. I would agree however that the KIRO PM drive show with those two guys and midwest bar-stool talk, does not befit a large market NT station. KIRO needs to do real news in all drive times.

My issue with Bonneville is that they "blew up" the AM/FM News combo, not that they abandoned KBSG. Washington DC is a news town and WTOP has no real challengers so it works on a standalone FM, though as I recall it was a combo for about five or six years with the heritage AM. KIRO combo'd with the AM for a matter of months. The first mistake in my view.
The combo approach is proving effective in other towns like San Francisco. You keep the heritage station and its audience and then add a new audience from FM. The trick as guru mentions is to upgrade your content was well. This is the parameter that most miss. In retrospect, I believe that KIRO AM/FM would have held on to many of its diary listeners. Pulling back on talk would also have been a wise move in the PPM environment. Bonneville chose to add talk and break up a combo, a bad decision in my humble opinion. Now that KOMO has added an FM they may have the advantage.

I guess I'm still wondering if time will change these rankings. RadioProf, I read your reply to me at the other thread, I see that someone else noted that about 5% of the population wearing PPM changes each month. That's a pretty static pop in my view, but you are saying that your experience with other markets says the numbers don't change much. So are you saying that ARB is so together that they know how to get a really representative sample? They sure didn't in Diary land and from what I know it's pretty darn hard to get someone to wear a PPM, I remember how hard the guy on the phone BEGGED ME to fill out a diary when they called (and they let me do it even more surprising that's how desperate they were). Plus TV had a pretty hard time getting people to take set top boxes but still you insist the population ARB pulls is just peachy representative of the real world? Is it quota sampling, do they try and match the population characteristis of the market? I was going to ask at the seminar this morning but my eariler meeting ran uber long and I had to miss it. The point still remains, the data is only as good as the population wearing the devices.
