Is it just me or is there lack of interest in the ratings now that they come out monthly. I saw the 6+ numbers for Atlanta but wanted to find out how 99X performed in demo, also how is the country battle shaping up?

I said a few weeks back that Star 94 is sounding spot-on once again, and it looks like Atlanta agrees. Nice to see them crack a 4-share 12+ for the first time in quite a while. Obviously I haven't seen the breakdowns, but Cindy & Ray seems to have been the right move. The powers that be at Star have accomplished task one, making Star a ratings force once again. Now, on to task two - knocking Q100 off, which won't be easy thanks largely to Mr. Weiss. Even if Star holds in this range, however, it's a heck of a lot more respectable than their status a year ago today.

Nice growth for The Bull - is that the first time they've ever cracked a 3? Cume-wise, they're close within Kicks' range. Time to put the stake in Viva, those numbers are downright horrible! Peach 105.7, anyone?

With a station like 99X, word of mouth will accomplish much more than it would with a newly-launched format. That signal's not a joke, either. Crystal clear north of the Perimeter...and I started picking 97.9 up on the Barrow side of the Gwinnett/Barrow County border. Cumulus might as well sink a little money into marketing and build a mid 1-lower 2 share station. Or, they could move the format to 100.5. I like the music changes on WNNX, and I think Cumulus will give it a few months to work (or, more likely, fail), but I wouldn't be surprised if the station was toast by year's end. Food for thought - imagine how horrible their ratings would be WITHOUT The Regular Guys. Yikes.

I absolutely detest Cumulus. However, relaunching 99x as an HD2 side channel, appears to be a brilliant move...doesn't matter if it's a .1 or a .6 or a 1.0...just that it's shown up. I hate to say it...but.....here goes....s-s-s-s-mart move a55hats!

Either that or 97.9 is toast by years end should the FCC decide to shout "all right, out of the pool!" to HD Multicasters on Translators.

Trend seems to be in the other direction with the FCC coming up with rules allowing FM translators of AM stations.

Re: Rock 100.5, I for one don't like the new format. If I wanted to listen to AAA, full-on alt ( :p ), or classic hits, I already had choices for that. They took out the only slices of music in their old format that weren't represented elsewhere on the dial, and they're no longer a set-it-and-forget-it station for me. Really surprised that Cumulus put on so much alt/AAA at the same time they brought back 99X...unless it's a test to see if 99X would work back on a regular FM signal, albeit not as strong as before.

<whine>I've lost a lot of my favorite stations over the past few months...Rock 100.5 changing their format, True Oldies having signal issues, Georgia 105.1 going dark for all intents and purposes, and Majic 102.9 getting interference from that translator. Thank goodness for satellite.</whine>

Rodney, thanks for the demos. A couple posters on your link mention that Steve & Vikki are ranked #14 from 6-9 AM and #15 from 5-9 AM (in 25-54). Are you able to verify those rankings? If that's true, it would appear the ROI on S&V is not yet paying off for Cox. Was the previous AM show ranked higher than that? I understand there needs to be a break in period. Theirs (Steve & Vikki's) is either about to end or over, especially considering the amount of marketing given to their return to the air and their long, successful track record in Atlanta.

In addition, as the only AC in a very AC friendly methodology (PPM), what do the total week May rankers say about WSB-FM in general? Ranking #6 in demo with Star at #7 and increasing, perhaps it's time to "vote B98.5 number one at work"....again! Or maybe a competitor should step up to challenge them.

Atlanta HAS room for another AC competitor. If smaller cities and metro areas like Columbus, OH, Charlotte, NC, and even Chattanooga, TN have two AC stations, Atlanta should have two. A good start would be to make 105.7 FM be AC (can't really go with 94.9 knowing how surprisingly well The Bull is doing right now) with Kelly and Alpha doing the mornings, a local radio talent doing the middays, and possibly Rob Lee doing the afternoons. Sounds of faith could be moved to Sunday mornings, and the legendary Casey Casem's American Top 10 could be programmed either on Saturday or Sunday.

By the way, 98.5 is one of the best operated stations in the Atlanta area. Can't really find anything wrong with their sound quality or programming. It is that their list of songs or playlist is crap for a genuine AC station. Their theme weekends are getting ridiculous and annoying. Other AC stations around the country have much better playlists than 98.5. Just my two cents.

Isn't Casey Casem throwing in the towel soon?

I've posted before that ATL could use a soft AC station to fill the void left by Peach/Lite and WJZZ.

Casey Kasem's last show will be on July 4.

I've always liked B98.5's playlist (for an AC station), and I've always liked the theme weekends. I miss the dueling theme weekends between B98.5 and Star 94 (particularly Friday Night 80s).

There's a good chance that Casey Casem's son, Mike Casem, would be taking over the reins for American Top 10. Of course, one will have to hear it from another radio market besides Atlanta.
