May ratings out, discuss

Without getting too specific of course.

WRKO down just a hair, WBZ-FM up slightly. 96.9 higher than RKO.
WXKS 1200 down a hair.

WGBH the same, WCRB down a hair. The usuals on top: Kiss, WBZ, Magic, Jam'n, WEEI (up a bit,
still considerably higher than 98.5)

While WXKS was slightly lower than last month, the cume went up just a hair. (107.7k to 108k)

No sign of WWZN anywhere, not even in the "-" ratings (under 0.1? WJIB, WMKI, WCAP etc.)

WEEI= 5th
WBZ-FM=16th

Sox baseball had to help WEEI. When did Bruins bow out of playoffs again?

WJIB has not reported to Arbitron since the ratings switched to the PPM system, so it's not fair to say that they're under 0.1. There is simply no way of knowing what their ratings would be. Under the old diary system a few years ago, WJIB sometimes used to break over a 1.0 share. I don't know whether WWZN reports.

Some additions/corrections to the Boston Ratings Grid:

Station Share % Cume Format Owner

WCIB-FM 0.3 80,200 Classic Hits Qantum
WCOD-FM 0.1 49,600 Hot AC Qantum
WEVO-FM 0.1 23,200 News/Talk New Hampshire Public Radio
WFHN-FM 0.1 37,100 CHR Citadel
WROL-AM 0.1 37,500 Religious Salem

How are Hot 87.7 and Big City doing in the latest book? ;D

Hot 87.7 around 3.5 . Big City around 1.0 . Touch-FM maybe 0.1 because a weak signal. Thats my guess. Pirate radio stations are not part of PPM ratings system. Lame 108 is still NUMBER ONE IN THIS GARBAGE RADIO MARKET !!

Actually, WJIB ALWAYS broke or broke over a 1.0 for a couple years before PPM started.

Actually, WEEI is not in fifth place, but rather, a tie for eighth with WBMX. WROR is 7th, sister station WKLB 6th, and in the fifth place position, but actually tied for fourth with Jammin', is WODS. And that's what I wanted to bring up: Over the past three ratings periods, the cume for CBS' WODS has steadily risen, while the "Magic" appears to be wearing off for Greater Media's WMJX: a 6.3 to a 6.0 to a 5.4 in the latest period. So, technically, WODS is nipping at its heels. In New York City, CBS' WCBS-FM recently dethroned "Lite-FM" as the most popular station in New York City. I sense somethign similar might happen in Beantown... maybe not enough to overtake Kiss or WBZ-AM, but at least surpass WODS in the PPM's.

You must be looking at last month's ratings.

how long till waaf is gone to make way for the weei simulcast on 97.7 or 107.3??? there slipping inthe ratings everybook t seeems thoughts?

WAAF ratings stayed same and they went up slightly in cume. Mike 93.7 about the same,
also went up in cume.

WBZ-FM's cume went up from 420,000 to 540,000...and Taylor on radio-info reports
"Top five 25-54 adults – CHR “Kiss 108”, classic rock WZLX, hot AC “Mix” WBMX, AC “Magic” WMJX, and rhythmic “Jam’n” WJMN."

When you look at the public ratings on the Arbitron site (instead of at Radio-Info), the very last listing is WBCN-FM. I wonder if we are seeing the first appearance of an HD service (I forget which station broadcasts a reincarnation of 'BCN on HD channel). WBCN has been gone long enough that it should not appear at all.

Globe sports media section was saying Sports Hub was doing pretty well, in some cases beating out WEEI in good demos

http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer..._baseball_guy_gets_to_enjoy_the_pitch/?page=2

>>The Felger and Massarotti Show in the 2-6 p.m. time slot finished second with males 25-54 with a 7.3 rating. WEEI’s “The Big Show’’ was third with a 6.5. Among men 18-49 in the same time slot, The Sports Hub was first with 7.6, while WEEI was seventh (5.1).
In the 6-7 p.m. hour, “The Baseball Reporters,’’ hosted by Tony Massarotti, beat the WEEI Red Sox pregame show in every male demo.

I've read elsewhere that the HD channel for bluegrass on WAMU-FM in Washington, DC has also made an appearance on the PPMs there.

how about you all, which station do you all listen too more (choice or no choice) do you like it? why and why not? How about on your own free time, which station do you listen to more? What's the best thing about both stations? the one that you listen to on your free time and the other that you listen to without a choice.

In my case, we have on Magic 106.7 at my full time weekday job. It's ok. I'm not a huge fan of the AC format. I do like Motown which they do play. The best thing, I'd have to say is Nancy Quill and Dan Justin, those two are my favorites. All in all, for me, Magic 106.7 is ok, it's nothing really to get excited over.

On my free time, I listen to WEEI 850am, the best part of their station is all the local personalities, my favorate is John Ryder. He's on after the games and weekends.

and you all??

It just means that Arbitron hasn't cleared out its database. Probably any station that has shown up in any of its PPM reports over the last 6-12 months stays on the list even though it's not garnering enough listeners to attain at least a 0.1 share.

There are now stations that can show a 0.0 share on the report if there are enough listeners to make a showing in the "cume" column. There happen to be none of these stations on the current May 2010 Boston ratings report (found thru other sources).

This isn't all that surprising. Ordway had Larry Johnson on several times during May along with the likes of Butch Stern and other D-listers. He can't do that anymore. I know he's trying to help out his #1 sycophant, but it's hurting him. I think he should bring Pete Sheppard back and go to only one QUALITY co-host per show.
