May ratings

LITE on top again but down a few tenths. CBS FM, WBLS and Z100 all solid gains, especially for BLS. Z100 has a great track record of consistent ratings even with some competition from AMP. Towards the bottom PLJ is slowly gaining some traction, however IMO the addition of 90s & 80s music is not being done properly. Poor choices of cuts that are being burnt out fast, same old older cuts everyday in fact a few times a day. NASH at least seems to be stable now with a 1.7 which is an accomplishment considering NYC is not country friendly, their M/U/S ratings are gaining traction and they are doing very good in the Morristown book. NASH is actually beating sister station WABC in the NYC ratings, 77 is at 1.5. WOR has gone ahead of ABC with the help of the METS

Awesome! Dominating across the age demos, reminiscent of WABC back in the day (late 60s to mid 70s) when it was a successful mass appeal music station
 
WLTW 7.6 far ahead of CBS-FM 6.5. WAXQ down to 4.9.

One wonders if CBS-FM and WAXQ would be higher if it was not for having the worst audio quality compared to most NYC FM's.
 
Agree WAXQ hasn't had good processing for awhile and the audio is low. Burnout factor too as far as stale repetitive playlist, so many classics that they don't even touch and they should be adding more from bands like Foo Fighters as a way to move into the 2000's. Even CBS FM occasionally plays 2000 cuts.

I agree. Did not realize the audio level is low on top of the actual audio sound beings excessively loud to the point of distortion.
 
Not sure if this is true but i always thought the april/may/june ratings were the most important cause they set the ad $$ mark for the yr.

Not with the PPM. In general, agencies will use a rolling average of several books, so they refresh the rolling average every month and always have the most recent data whenever a buy is being planned.
 
In answer to the criticism that young people don't listen to the radio. They obviously do, in very large numbers.

But being #1 only shows Z100's relative strength among those 18-34 who are listening to radio. That number could be quite small -- not saying it is, but it could be. We'd need to know persons, not just AHQ or cume to proclaim very large numbers.

That's the problem with the horse race numbers Nielsen makes public. We can see whether a station (that pays) gets a bigger or smaller slice. Meanwhile the pie keeps getting smaller. And five minutes a week sets the bar pretty low for cume.
 
Nielsen should also release the total # of listeners. Not just the slice size.

If you pay for the subscriber numbers, you can see the whole picture. They aren't going to give the stuff away.

But to make a blanket statement that young people don't listen to broadcast radio is obviously wrong.
 
I'm sorry. Did I do something wrong? I listed Z100's latest total cume. I thought that since it was a total and not a breakdown, there wouldn't be any problem but my post is gone.
 
wow it's amazing how big of a void there is In moring radio, since Howard Stern left! I mean if you can't beat the Z moring zoo!

I tried to respond earlier but must have erred. Z100's most recent total cume is 4,769,800 which is good for second place. Thank you Mr. General Manager for getting back to me on this.
 
Z100 ktu and now play the songs i new were hits and listened to about 4 to 6 months or so after I get them.

Soon then will be play felix Jean "Ain't no body, Major Lazor with Ellie Goulding "Powerful, and Lost Frequencies "Are you with me"

it's always been that way, and you have to think I'm not the only one. Could they increase their listeners by playing the obvious hits sooner? The sheep they got now will just bahhh to whatever they play, they gain those of us with ears by playing the hits sooner.

All you have to do is look at AQH Rating or Cume Rating to see what percentage of the universe (all people) listen to radio and to the specific stations mentioned.

In 18-34, 90% of all persons use radio. The combination of WBMP, WHTZ, WSKQ. WQHT, WKTU and WWPR reaches 63.5% of all 18-34's in the New York MSA, unduplicated. Thats 2,834,000 total different people.

Those same 6 stations reach 52% of all persons 12+, or 8,452,000 persons. That's because CHRs and other contemporary formats target 18-44, not just 18-34.

You single out WHTZ as if its only appeal was 18-34. In fact, of its huge 12+ cume, 1.44 million are 18-34 and almost as many, 1.2 million, are 35-49. The total cume is 4.160 million 12+ with about 700 thousand under 18 and the same amount over 49.
