I've thought the same thing, but bottom line, as much as I liked Cool 96.9, I have yet to experience "good times" by listening to Kool 100.7. Of course they've never promised such an effect, but oldies should sound more FUN.
As it is now, and I'm sure some would agree with me, Kool 100.7 still sounds like Arrow, but with a little Motown in place of the Boston. It's an oldies "shuffle" followed by some spots and another "shuffle." Really, that's all we have, and it's disappointing. (Sure, Arf has started doing mornings, and he's OK with me, since I was used to listening to him on Arrow. I'm talking about the other 20 hours a day of auto-pilot.)
Yeah, we should be happy that SOMEONE is playing the music, but what now? The station isn't finished. I look forward to hearing who's behind the curtain ready to go, whenever that is, but for now, I'm just about all burned out.
For what it's worth, there was no reason to wait for non-competes to run out when local radio (and 96.9) veteran AJ Davis is on the Renda staff already. Briggs and/or Baron could have rounded out the schedule in the interim. Then they would have sounded more complete and would have been able to make a human connection from DAY ONE. They could also have built up the arrival of "our old friend Tom Murphy, back from a long vacation and ready to take back the microphone..." for example.
And it goes without saying (OK, I'm saying it) that when some oldies-experienced humans are in the studio, they can help shape up the musical rotation.
