Maybe no longer E-Skip but there's Tropo!

This morning, driving in to work, about 9:00 CT, I was listening to the *new* 105.9 "Newsradio 780" and in the Crystal Lake area 105.9 was being heavily interfered with. Thinking it might have been the 105.9 between Beloit and Madison, WI, I started hearing references to Kansas! So the ID comes up as KLZR Lawrence, Kansas. New state for me! Tuned around and there was some interference to other channels, but no time to investigate (wish I had more time for other stations!) About 430 miles.

Also, reception of stations in the 100-150 mile range was enhanced, such as KUUL 101.3 /WDLM 89.3 East Moline, IL; WBNQ 101.5/ WBWN 104.1 Bloomington, IL; WBNH 88.5 Pekin, IL.

Someone on this board indicated that tropo is usually better in August. I wish I had a chance to try it. Maybe tomorrow.

Where I am, it's generally March to May. There was a bizarre December '09 super-Tropo up the Atlantic Coast.

The first 3 days or so of July 1992 were da bomb, though. Imagine, tropo from FL out to Puerto Rico...!!

I was close by stormy01, here in Lake Geneva, WI. Today's tropo was good to me as well. I logged 17 new stations mainly from KS, MO, IA, southern IL, IN, KY & MI. Even a couple from western WI that I haven't logged at this location (started logging from here in March of '08).

Even the usual "indicator stations", (hearing these tells me tropo is starting) from the Quad Cities, Peoria/Springfield, Indy & Grand Rapids, were wiped out by new catches.

I noticed you guys had some really strong tropo in the forecast. Up here late spring, summer, and early fall are the best times for tropo. Then during the winter I noticed FM gets enhanced when it gets really cold, around -10F and colder. The distances aren't as far as summer tropo. I imagine its some temperature difference causing it.
