Mayor Clark Howard?

This morning on "Atlanta's Morning News," I heard that Clark Howard is considering a run for mayor after Shirley Franklin's term ends. He said he'll make his final decision in summer, 2008.

He's talked about this casually before. I don't know whether this means he's getting more serious.

Maybe one of us should ask him about it on his radio show tomorrow.

he would win by a landslide!! you got my vote Clark. The first time I heard that topic I think a caller was mentioning it. Brilliant!

I'll truly be interested to see how little he spends on his campaign. Think about it -- he's always so frugal... will he be doing his own campaign signs?

if you thought it was hard to get the city to allocate funding before Clark, wait till he takes the oath. ;)

let's hope and pray he throws his hat in the ring

At an event in suburbia about a year ago, clark asked how many would support him if he ran for mayor of Atlanta. Every hand went up. Then he asked how many lived in the city of Atlanta. About five hands went up. Clark observed, "that's the problem."

I think Clark Howard running for mayor is not a good idea.
Think about it . He would be cutting city services to be "on the cheap".

Also the man has no political experience. I would not vote for him.

I'd vote for him. There would be no budget... but then again maybe the city would stop constructing outrageous buildings, only to be left empty. ::)

Clark would probably be a good mayor. Maybe we'd even get a police force that isn't run by a bunch of incompetent cronies. Then again he has about as much chance getting elected mayor as a Democrat does at being the next governor.

Sales Weasel - don't mention the D word. It was banned in Georgia in 2006 after the election. In fact, I shouldn't even be writing about this, wait, someone's at the door, "who is it?" Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........

Clark would be a great mayor.

As for his experience, Shirley Franklin had none before being elected, while Bill Campbell had years as a city official. Who did a better job as mayor?

Clark has been a business executive, has been under the microscope for years as to his honesty (when you do what he does, you'd better not be taking kickbacks, or payouts from the competitors of those you slam), and has no agenda. He doesn't need the prestige, and certainly isn't in need of the money.

Clark is just an honest man who sees a city in need of honesty.

Atlanta is a mostly Democratic city, so he should have no problem. However, I see Clark being more of an independent than being tied to any political party. I do think he could be a good mayor, but his frugality does concern me. Sure, government should be run in the black, but I wouldn't want the streets resurfaced with cheaper materials to save money. That will come back later to haunt the city.

There's your campaign slogan right there.

I think it would be neat to drive downtown this summer and see the city buildings with their windows open.
But I'd have to get out before midnight before the "save electricity" curfew where all the street lights go off.
The city housing projects are equipped with the latest washboards and clothlines.
And don't forget the bicycle lanes on I-75/85.

(I'm sure there are other practical cost-cutting measures with which this group could help Mayor Clark run the city. ;))
