MBP City of License Change?

Noticed the other day that WMAB-89.9 had changed its legal ID from Mississippi State to Ackerman. Any idea of what precipitated that change?

Even if the transmitter was moved to near Ackerman, they wouldn't have had to change the COL to there, would they?

WMAB's tower is already in Ackerman. Or more precisely on Dido Road, found just past metro Ackerman, a.k.a. "the stoplight" :)

The site looks like a broadcast site should: the paved road takes a gentle curve as it goes up a hill, at the crest of which sits the transmitter building and tall tower. Big Channel 2 batwing antenna on top. Not sure if this board lets one attach pictures, but the next time I'm up there I'll try to snap a shot.

As for the COL change, I'll ask. Wa-a-a-y back yonder in the mid-70's, when State's WMSB was blasting the borders with a mighty 8 watts, we took a lot of pride in our "WMSB, Mississippi State" ID.

MPB has a CP for WMAA-DT ch43 (originally looks like it may have been an analog on 43) for Columbus... I would guess this also could have something to do with changing the COL to ackerman from MS State.

Also looking at the DT coverage for WMAB-DT and WMAE-DT leads me to 1 idea.
WMAA-DT will have a great signal in Columbus, Starkville & Tupelo.
WMAB-DT 47dbu contour slices Tupelo and covers Columbus fairly well I think.
WMAE-DT covers Tupelo well.
So my wild guess but WMAA could easily run 5 sd streams for educational, government, and other alternative programing just the same way KET does with some of their channels. KET in Kentucky runs up to 5 streams at some times on selected channels.

Here in Memphis
WKNO runs 3 different channels currently WKNO (analog), WKNO-HD, and WKNO2 on the DT signal. They have also have a CP for a new DT on channel 56.

WPXX has i on 50.1, PAX 50.2, WORSHIP 50.3, 50.4 is think is Daystar all SD streams
& WBUY-DT 41 is now broadcasting all five TBN networks:
TBN, The Church Channel, JCTV, TBN Enlace USA and Smile of a Child.

MPB is applying for CH26 for a digital channel in Clarksdale at a low power level

MPB had these apps but i guess they cancelled them for some reason.. I no longer see it

WKNO actually is only running 2 streams at the moment. They have WKNO-HD, and their WKNO-2 stream. The analog on 10 is not duplicated in DTV. I think this is a bandwidth issue. To run a full, true HD, it takes up a lot of bit budget.

Now, as far as the 56 is concerned, it has been somewhat in flux. While paper is still being shifted, it appears the CP will never construct on 56. Instead, WKNO-DT will remain on 29, and the 56 CP will construct on its 2nd round election channel, on 10. Of course, this will have to wait until 2009 when WKNO moves off its analog channel.

Of course, there is also a CP pending for a full-power on 14 here in Memphis. I strongly suspect this will be built out as a DTV, and never pass analog. I don't know anyone within that group, so I can only guess here.

As an aside, it will be fun to watch what happens after 2009, and there are a host of newly-vacant channels as the analogs go off. Channel 3, for just one example, will be vacant in the Memphis area, as will others.

Hey Dead I didn't type that out very clear on the WKNO part. Personally I am a fan of multicasting when it offers something and doesn't deter too much from the main HD signal.

I wonder when Twarner changes over if they will do anything about WPXX's signal. I might be about to pick up the analog better with an 18 story building in my way using a loop. It doesn't seem like it would be so hard to use 50.1 to feed the cable. I thought for the longest they had Microwave issues out to the transmitter but 50.1 looks decent. I wouldn't say It always beautiful but that is problem the content more than anything I suppose. With a real network affiliation coming up soon I hope Twarner or whoever is in control at the time care enough to fix what some of us pay for. Right now if My Network TV has any good shows I will probably hook up and antenna and use built in tuner to get 50.1 OTA.

Actually was talking about the radio station, WMAB-FM-89.9, but interesting info on the TV side none the less.
I pretty much only listen to MPB since there are no decent radio stations in this market (I don't like pop, rap or country and the only oldies station in the area can't be picked up south of Tupelo, so i'm pretty SOL when it comes to music choices).

Interestingly enough, WMAB-FM ran a "Mississippi State" ID a couple days ago when I was in the car so, I don't really know what's going on.

On a side note, anyone know why WMAB-FM has always been ID'd as "Mississippi State" but Mississippi State University-owned WMSV-91.1 IDs as "Starkville"?
