MBZ, HBQ and Stern.

I had a chance to see some 18-34 numbers and it's easy to understand why MBZ has adjusted music and moved staff. They have done nothing but trend down over the past twelve months.

Any thoughts on the MFS replacement for Stern? Strange, but I think the only "music formatted" stations morning shows that don't cater to some sort of Urban format and are local would be Young & Elder on Kix and Karson & Kennedy on Q107.5. I thought I saw on All Access that Q had just signed their morning show to another two year contract. How long is the Young & Elder contract? Which local show is best?

Would it be possible that they might pick up one of the regional syndications that Infinity is going to do (Carolla in LA, etc.)?

I will translate this one...

Actually, Karson, the decline started around December 17th 2004. The downward spiral, was of course, inevitable, and started showing in the trends in January of this year. MBZ has handed you and your staff a HUGE gift, a gift that keeps on giving, however, WHBQ has yet to see any benefit from the hemmoraging to date.

You read that, before, or after you wrote all access and told them? Anyone who doubts this, (NESTA=Karson with a K) click "Read all user's posts", and go back to 12/27/04. Q 107 is a good sounding CHR, and K & K is a decent morning show. But come on Karson with a K, isn't slamming Buzz from a glass house, on this board, pretending to be a third person a bit narcissistic with an N?

First off, I never slammed MBZ. I just stated facts about what I saw in the numbers and you even agreed with me about those facts.

Yes, I tried to mislead a little in the post but I was looking for honest feedback about local shows and many times people will not be honest if they know who is asking. That doesn't make me narcissistic (with an n, funny) just curious.

Who me drink? Never! and I'm not sacarstic either.

So I still listen

I still listen to K & K well over half of my morning listening time...
the rest i spend with mp3s,xm,air america, or checking for DX & flipping around.

My only worry has ever been power failure.... static doesnt usually wake me....
So my alarm is set on 100.. I turn it off and go turn 107.5 on while i get ready for work.

I don't hold it again K&K that 107.5 doesn't have backup power... lots of stations here tend to get knocked off..
Fm100 benefits from being in a building with a tv station having alternate power and on the same tv stations tower

No, FM 100 benefits from having a chief engineer in the 90's who understood that silence is NOT golden.

Radiosaur, you are so right. My first stint at FM100 was 89-96 and I remember well the knowledgeable engineering staff that was in the building at that time. I am bad with remembering names, but I do recall a sandy haired blond guy that was an engineer during that time who was extremely astute in how to make things work right. Damn, what was his name?

i dont doubt that but someone writes the checks and in lots of places no one writes then or at least enough of those for engineering.....

the radio dial through this area is truth to that

yeah ago things were run much better

many groups don't care as long as its on the air

i'm make a post when i have more time as to what stations need to pay an engineer to come in imho

the avg listener doesn't notice right?

the average listener's I know tell me

92.9 is "muffled" "sounds like crap" their words when asking me why

another friend repeatedly ask me why 107.5 sounds wierd ( with much conversation and finally sitting down having what he hears directly pointed out its how the highs are so compress that the ssss's smear.... not even distort.. just smash in to garbage often.. its something in the 5-6k range it think.. 10k-12k is rolled off very much

another friend over the years asks me why he cant pick up WEVL Clear in stereo
they live in cordova... what they hear is the the STL signal is low or just noisy....

why does fm100 echo... (this person has a surround system on and the the processing on the stereo image is too wide and clears center on allot of music and surround sound takes this to a level beyond anoying )

these arent even my observations just where i have had to explain to people i know why something is how it is...

I have the highest level of respect for engineers... a guy who inspired me at an early age was and engineer who had one of the best sounding am stations i knew of back years ago over unbalanced telco lines.... that was "Doc" Graves / WROX AM during 70's and 80's.

Also i think Kurt Harnack might read here and not sure but I think he's to credit for WDTL FM Cleveland which returned to air year ago sounding supurb for small market radio....

I know J Boyd pops in from time to time.. WBLE has always had excellent processing and has sounded wonderful on air for years.

not long ago.. something happend at WQOX that was years late.. WQOX now sounds better on air than most stations.. if the highs didnt distort they would take the prize home.... digitally stored music doesnt have to be completly ruined before you put it on air... I have studied too long and hard about encoding and algorythms and put much of it into practice to know.....

its sad what excellent engineers have to work with and put up with today and that they might be the last person anyone listens to in some radio groups
