McConnell

Is there anybody in NEO still airing the weekend with Mike McConnell?
WKBN maybe?

With him leaving WLW to WGN, I wonder how uncomfortable he may sound this weekend or next.

I've never noticed him locally, but never specifically tried to find him. I usually just grabed the podcasts from WLW but it would seem that's out now.

WNCO/1340-Ashland still carries it live on Saturdays. Pretty much the only one I know of right now.

Funny thing is, WLW will not carry the final few weeks of "The Weekend with Mike McConnell" even though Premiere will give him the chance to say goodbye on the show (it will revert to the original "rotating guest hosts" format conceived as a weekend filler for all of Jacor/CC's Ohio talk stations back in 1998 in late July). Among the guest hosts WLW will trot out instead include none other than WTAM's Matt Patrick on the 26th. 8)

And none of Mike's podcasts are accessible at all anymore, per the Soviet-style purge of McConnell's page from WLW's website. It's like he never existed... ;)

Must be the opposite of what happened to Maxwell's WMMS podcasts - CC deleted the XML file, yet (AFAIK) the podcasts themselves were never erased ( which allowed for many happy downloads later on :) )

As noted on the OMW Twitter account, "The Weekend" is being hosted this week by Tim Conway Jr. (KFI/Los Angeles).

He told listeners that he had just signed a "3 year deal" to do the show, but would be gone for most of the summer due to vacation. I don't know if he was joking about any or all of it, I don't know his style.

It does sound like McConnell is gone, either way. The show opening has no name on it - they've already excised "with Mike McConnell" in a quick edit job. Conway said that guest hosts (as previously noted) would do the show all summer.

WTVN in Columbus has (per their online schedule) apparently dropped the show. I heard the above on the stream of WHAS in Louisville KY

And yes, Tim Conway Jr. is the son of Cleveland's own Tim Conway...

WTVN's Dirk Thompson told me they dropped "The Weekend" "a year ago", but Kiesewetter in Cincinnati says WTVN ran McConnell's first post-WLW appearance along with WHAS/840 in Louisville.

Apparently, not...

If you want Mike's old podcasts, iTunes still has them. I downloaded 2400+, hour segments a couple weeks ago. I have to listen to them, when I tire of Mike's replacement, Scot Sloan. I realize now that 2400 won't last long! Actually, I have my WLW stream on mute much of the day anymore. Should try to break the habit of logging on to WLW, the first thing in the morning, but that will stop when Mike starts at WGN. However, I haven't heard when his WGN time slot will start/end.
I just verified Mike's old podcasts still exist at Apple iTunes.

Mike's new show will be on from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time (8:30 a.m - 12:30 p.m. Chicago time), starting next Monday. The unconventional time slot is not only to directly lead into Cubs baseball, but also to accommodate the prior midday host (and now early-afternoon host) on WGN, who also hosts another three-hour weekday show on WCCO/Minneapolis from WGN's studios... ah, that's a long story. ::)
